Attention gamers with a stash of Citi ThankYou Points: There’s now another way to put those rewards to use.

Starting in October 2026, eligible Citi Mastercard cardholders — including those with popular cards like the Citi Strata Elite℠ Card, Citi Strata Premier^® Card, and Citi Double Cash^® Card — may be able to redeem points for video games and in-game purchases through Xsolla, a gaming payment platform.

Whether you’re buying a new video game or making an in-game purchase, you may now be able to cover some or all of the cost with Citi ThankYou Points.

The new option is available to eligible U.S. Citi Mastercard cardholders who make qualifying purchases through Xsolla. Rather than visiting a separate rewards portal, cardholders can apply their points directly at checkout.

When making an eligible purchase, cardholders can choose to redeem ThankYou Points for partial or full amounts as part of the payment process.

Gaming is a pretty big market for Citi to tap into. According to figures shared in Citi’s announcement, more than 212 million Americans play video games each week, and U.S. consumers spent $60.8 billion on gaming in 2025.

This move from Citi gives cardholders different opportunities to use their rewards, moving beyond traditional options like travel, gift cards, and statement credits. Citi says its partnership with Xsolla is the first of several new Shop with Points relationships it plans to introduce.

While we don’t yet know the redemption value of ThankYou Points for video games, you’ll likely get more value by transferring your points to Citi’s airline and hotel partners for travel.

Final Thoughts

Citi’s latest partnership gives cardholders another way to use their ThankYou Points, especially if gaming is more their thing than travel. While it’s nice to have more redemption options, the value you’ll get for your points remains unclear. Most likely, points will be worth 1 cent apiece or less through Xsolla.

Personally, I’d stick to transferring ThankYou Points to airline and hotel partners, where you can often get more bang for your buck. Still, additional flexibility is always welcome.
