Austin is getting a new destination this summer.
Starting July 6, 2023, Copa Airlines will operate its first service to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) from its base in Panama City (PTY). The news comes just a few weeks after the carrier announced a new service to Baltimore.
Let’s take a look at the details.
Copa Will Fly Nonstop From Austin to Panama City
Copa’s new route is big news for Austin, as this is the first-ever nonstop service between the two cities.
Additionally, Copa will become the second carrier to offer nonstop service between the Texas capital and the subcontinent of Central America. American Airlines currently operates a 3x weekly service to the popular leisure destination of Liberia, Costa Rica.
The new service will launch on July 6, 2023, and round-trip economy fares start at around $515. Copa will operate year-round on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays with the following schedule:
Depart Austin (AUS) 3:34 p.m. — Arrive Panama City (PTY) 8:16 p.m.
Depart Panama City (PTY) 9:18 a.m. — Arrive Austin (AUS) 2:04 p.m.
Copa Airlines is able to expand its network northwards and southwards across the Americas thanks to its hub at Panama Airport and the 3000+ nautical-mile range of its Boeing 737-7s, -8s, and state-of-the-art Boeing 737 MAX 9 jets.
In such a way, the carrier connects more of the Americas with Panama as well as provides one-stop connections from a wide-reaching network of 80 destinations spanning from Montreal (YUL) in the north to Buenos Aires (EZE) in the South.
“We’re pleased to offer greater connectivity to our passengers and contribute to the growth of tourism and commerce in Panama and the countries we serve,” said Christophe Didier, vice president of global sales and distribution at Copa Airlines.
With the addition of Austin, Copa will serve a total of 15 destinations in the U.S. with nonstop service to Panama.
Hot Tip: Copa Airlines used to be part of MileagePlus, United Airlines’ frequent flyer program, but now has its own, known as ConnectMiles. You can learn all about how to earn and redeem ConnectMiles for maximum value!
