Delta Air Lines has partnered with the Australian regional airline Rex by way of an interline agreement.
The move will make exploring Australia easier for Delta passengers flying in on Delta’s nonstop service from Los Angeles (LAX) to Sydney (SYD).
“We are excited to be expanding the domestic Australian relationship with Rex Airlines to enable our customers to connect seamlessly to our daily Sydney to Los Angeles flight,” said Nicole Bennett, Head of Sales for Australia and New Zealand at Delta.
Here are the details of this exciting new partnership.
Delta Air Lines Partners With Rex
In a nutshell, the interline agreement means that travelers from both the U.S. and Australia who wish to visit the other country will now be able to book a 1-ticket itinerary.
In most cases, this will also facilitate passengers being able to check their bags through to their final destination even when their itineraries include both Delta and Rex flights.
Delta currently operates just 1 nonstop service to Australia from Los Angeles (LAX) to Sydney (SYD). The route that currently operates daily, flown by the airline’s flagship Airbus A350, is set to increase to 10 weekly flights as of December 18, 2022.
So far there is no mention of whether SkyMiles members will be able to earn or redeem SkyMiles on the Rex-operate flights within Australia.
Rex is a far-reaching regional airline with hubs in major Australian cities, including Sydney.
From there, Delta passengers arriving from the U.S. will be able to connect a mixture of 16 nonstop domestic routes as well as shorter regional services within the Australian state of New South Wales.
Destinations include well-known cities like Brisbane (BNE), Gold Coast (OOL), and Melbourne (MEL), plus some you may have never heard of before like Broken Hill (BHQ) and Wagga Wagga (WGA).
Rex’s routes are operated by a fleet of regional Saab 340 jets and 7 larger Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
Final Thoughts
You can now book a 1-ticket, 1-stop itinerary to 16 destinations across Australia from Los Angeles thanks to Delta and Rex’s new interline agreement.
We’ve always wanted to go to Wagga Wagga. Haven’t you?
