Let’s take a look at the (very few) details we have so far.

Disney’s Seventh Park

Disney announced that it will open a brand new theme park in Abu Dhabi, UAE, in partnership with Miral, Abu Dhabi’s leading creator of immersive destinations and experiences.

Miral will develop, build, and operate the resort, while Disney Imagineers will lead the creative design and operational oversight.

This will be Disney’s first park in the Middle East, and its first new park since Shanghai Disneyland opened in 2010.

The new park will feature a waterfront resort on the famous Yas Island, which is already known for its hotels, entertainment, and destinations such as Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, and Yas Waterworld.

As our seventh theme park destination, it will rise from this land in spectacular fashion, blending contemporary architecture with cutting-edge technology to offer guests deeply immersive entertainment experiences in unique and modern ways. Disneyland Abu Dhabi will be authentically Disney and distinctly Emirati – an oasis of extraordinary Disney entertainment at this crossroads of the world that will bring to life our timeless characters and stories in many new ways and will become a source of joy and inspiration for the people of this vast region to enjoy for generations to come.

Robert A. Iger, Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company

When finished, the new Disney park will offer themed hotels, distinctive dining, and shopping experiences that blend Disney’s iconic storytelling with Abu Dhabi’s rich history and futuristic plans.

Disneyland Abu Dhabi will be located 20 minutes from downtown Abu Dhabi, 50 minutes from Dubai, and is within a 4-hour flight for one-third of the world’s population. Abu Dhabi and Dubai combine for 120 million passengers traveling through each year, and now there is 1 more reason to stick around.

Points and miles fans are already thinking about flying Emirates and Etihad on their next Disney trip!

What To Expect at Disneyland Abu Dhabi

While details are limited at the moment, we can take a few guesses about what’s to come from the hints dropped in Disney’s sizzle reel.

Whether they are clues or just random clips, the following movies and intellectual properties (IPs) were featured:

  • Avatar
  • Frozen
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Iron Man
  • The Lion King
  • Moana
  • Star Wars
  • Tron
  • Zootopia

Only time will tell what gets the green light, but based on the artistic concepts, we can already see that the traditional park castle is getting a spiraling refresh.
