I’ve visited Walt Disney World in every season, but the holidays are when my family loves visiting the most. Everything gets kicked up a notch with music, lights, food, and special features you can’t find any other time of year.

From rides on Jingle Cruise to storytellers sharing traditions from around the world, here’s a park-by-park look at the holiday magic that makes this season my favorite time to visit Disney World.

EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays

Visiting EPCOT during the International Festival of the Holidays (from November 28 to December 30 in 2025) is a delightful way to experience global holiday traditions. We’re always drawn to the holiday traditions from around the world, seasonal treats, and special entertainment and meet and greets.

Festival holiday kitchens bring global flavors and festive drinks, including spiced wine and chestnuts roasted on an open fire.

We snacked on panettone holiday trifle, Reuben croquettes, and tiramisu imperial stout.

If you pick up a passport, you can get stamps for the cookie stroll challenge. When we filled our passport, we got to pick up a completer treat, which was a cookie kit to enjoy at home.

The festive food is a major draw, but I consider entertainment the real gem of EPCOT’s International Festival of the Holidays. There’s so much to see, and we always stumble upon a great show or storyteller as we make our way around the World Showcase.

Each night in the American pavilion features the candlelight processional, a celebration of the Christmas story narrated by celebrities accompanied by a 50-piece orchestra, herald trumpets, and the Voices of Liberty. It’s sometimes tough to get seats (especially for popular celebrities), but this is a beautiful show to catch, even if you’re only passing through the pavilion.

During the day, holiday storytellers in the World Showcase share stories from around the world, including the Chinese Lunar New Year lion dancers in the China pavilion, the Hanukkah storyteller between the Morocco and France pavilions, and Father Christmas in the United Kingdom pavilion.

Hot Tip:

Each storyteller has multiple showtimes daily, and we’ve found it easy to see numerous storytellers.

Santa Claus has a meet and greet in CommuniCore Hall, and just outside in CommuniCore Plaza is JOYFUL! A Celebration of the Season, featuring gospel, R&B, and holiday songs.

Take a ride on Living with the Land during the festival and you’ll see the Glimmering Greenhouses festive overlay, featuring holiday lights, huge ornaments, and snowmen. We recommend riding after dark, when it looks best.

Animal Kingdom Holidays in Nature

Animal Kingdom’s holiday theming isn’t as grand as the other parks, but it’s a can’t-miss holiday park for me.

The Merry Menagerie interactive puppets are by far the most charming holiday feature at Animal Kingdom. This roaming attraction is at the entrance to Discovery Island in the walkway in front of the Tree of Life. It features numerous wooden and soft puppets of arctic animals, including polar bears, baby seals, and reindeer to pet and play with.

The polar bears are my favorite.

The puppeteers do a fantastic job bringing these beautifully painted puppets to life, with realistic movements and playful nudges. It’s not typically a Photo Pass spot, but the puppeteers are happy to pose for photos.

My kids love petting the fuzzy puppets.

During the holidays, the Tree of Life Awakenings nighttime show features a holiday edition. The show, projected on the Tree of Life every 10 minutes from dusk until park closing, features shimmering and sparkling effects set to holiday music.

Although it’s not exclusive to the holidays, seeing Pandora after dark is one of the best winter activities at Animal Kingdom. There’s nothing like being in the glowing alien world of Pandora among the calm and quiet as the park clears out.

The park closes at 6 p.m. most nights, which is usually long before sunset. However, from November to January, sunset in Orlando is between 5:30 and 6 p.m. You can see Pandora at night if you stay until closing time. Even when the attractions shut down for the night, it’s a rare treat to walk through the (simulated) bioluminescent trails and see the land lit up.

Hollywood Studios Vintage Holidays

In November and December, Hollywood Studios feels like stepping into a classic holiday movie, complete with tinsel, vintage holiday decor, and jazzy Christmas tunes.

Echo Lake is the best spot to see the holiday highlights of Hollywood Studios. I like visiting at night, as the colorful balls on the lake light up and the Christmas tree reflects on the water. Christmas feels more festive after spotting Gertie the dinosaur in her Santa hat.

There’s usually a Photo Pass spot at Echo Lake that’s great for Christmas card photos.

Sunset Boulevard also lights up at night for the holidays, with Sunset Seasons Greetings projections on the Tower of Terror, lasers, and music. During the show, “snoap” (soap snow) occasionally falls along Sunset Boulevard. Sunset Seasons Greetings runs nearly continuously from sunset to park closing time.

On some nights, Hollywood Studios has Jollywood Nights holiday parties, a separate ticketed event with live jazz, themed cocktails, and a smaller crowd. It’s a festive night with holiday glamour and exclusive entertainment, including character meet-and-greets and “The Nightmare Before Christmas” sing-along show.

Magic Kingdom Classic Cheer

The Magic Kingdom is where Disney World goes all out for the holidays, with wreaths, garlands, a giant Christmas tree, and twinkling lights from the front gates to Cinderella Castle.

It never gets old walking Main Street, U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom during the holidays. I like to head down the Emporium sidewalk to check out all the holiday window displays.

One of my family’s essential holiday traditions at the Magic Kingdom is riding Jingle Cruise. This overlay on Jungle Cruise adds Christmas decor and clever holiday puns. It’s better after dark with the glowing lights.

At Cinderella Castle, “Frozen” characters celebrate the season with Frozen Holiday Surprise. Olaf and the snowgies decorate the castle and are joined by Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff on stage as Elsa turns the castle into ice.

On select nights, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (a separate ticketed event) takes over the park. This is Disney World’s signature holiday event, with Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks Show, and Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration stage show. Throughout the party are characters, dance parties, and complimentary treats and drinks. Main Street, U.S.A. features “snowfall” with soap snow.

Holiday Magic Beyond the Parks

Memorable Disney World holiday moments don’t necessarily require a park ticket, as the resorts and Disney Springs go all-in on holiday decor and celebrations. We like visiting on rest days for a more relaxed pace.

Disney World resorts put up Christmas trees in November, typically by the week of Thanksgiving. Some of the best Christmas trees to check out are at Deluxe resorts, such as Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

In addition to resort Christmas trees, there are a handful of gingerbread houses, which take months of preparation. These feats of cookie engineering are highly detailed — complete with hidden Mickeys in the icing — and are fascinating to see up close.

Gingerbread houses are at:

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa usually has the largest and most impressive gingerbread house, but there won’t be one in 2025 as the lobby undergoes construction.

Some gingerbread house displays have pop-up shops for holiday treats, including cupcakes, candied apples, and Mickey-shaped Rice Krispies treats.

Hot Tip:

We like taking a monorail tour to visit resorts with gingerbread houses and Christmas trees. Hop on the resort monorail at the Ticket & Transportation Center, which has stops for Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The monorail also stops at the Magic Kingdom, where you can get off to take a boat to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

At Disney Springs is the huge Disney Springs tree, holiday entertainment, and sprinklings of snoap. Many of the stores, restaurants, and attractions have holiday offerings.

One of our favorite Disney Springs holiday stops is Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, which offers a holiday menu featuring items such as wreath-shaped beef Wellington, turkey egg rolls, and meatballs served in a sleigh. It features holiday decor with garland, lights, and vintage ornaments.

Hot Tip:

If you’re a cardholder of the Disney® Premier Visa® Card or Disney® Visa® Card, you can get 10% off select merchandise and dining in the parks and at Disney Springs.

There’s also the Christmas Tree Stroll, featuring themed trees inspired by “Frozen,” “Star Wars,” “Encanto,” and other popular films. Pick up a free map, match the stickers to the tree, and return your completed map for a prize. Some of the trees have interactive features activated with a MagicBand+.

Final Thoughts

Disney World at the holidays feels bigger and brighter than any other time of year. It’s festive, busy, and full of special features. Each park has something unique, from EPCOT’s global storytellers to the retro glow of Hollywood Studios, that keeps us coming back every year for Disney World holiday festivities.
