Good (splashing) news for Disney water park fans: Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is finally reopening on March 17, 2024!

After closing for refurbishments on November 6, 2023, guests have only had 1 Disney water park to enjoy as of late. However, this news doesn’t change that fact.

Let’s take a look at the latest news from the theme park giant.

Typhoon Lagoon Opening

This week at a media event in Orlando, Florida, Upgraded Points Content Contributor Juan Ruiz spoke with Liliana Lorenzo, Marketing Strategy Manager at Walt Disney World, who teased the water park news.

“We have North America’s largest wave pool and 60 acres of fun,” said Lorenzo. “We might have some splashing news to share later today!”

On Thursday afternoon, the Disney Water Parks Instagram account confirmed that Typhoon Lagoon is re-opening on March 17, 2024.

After being closed for more than 130 days for “routine refurbishment,” guests are anxious to get back to the popular destination.

Blizzard Beach Closing

While guests are excited about the re-opening of Typhoon Lagoon, many will also be frustrated with the announced closing of Disney’s Blizzard Beach beginning March 17, 2024.

As has been the trend for Disney over the past couple of years, only 1 water park will be open at a time to facilitate ongoing maintenance and refurbishments of the 2 water parks.

That means unless guests are visiting the week of March 16, 2024, they will not be able to visit both water parks in the same trip — which is a popular goal for many who want to visit all 6 Walt Disney World parks in 1 vacation.

Final Thoughts

After being closed for more than 4 months for refurbishments, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is finally re-opening. Unfortunately, Disney’s Blizzard Beach is closing the very next day for routine refurbishments, so guests will still only have 1 water park option at Walt Disney World.

But with waterslides, pools, a massive lazy river, and plenty more for guests of all ages, there is plenty to be excited about with Typhoon Lagoon!
