There’s a new transpacific relationship in the air.

Fiji Airlines — the national carrier of Fiji — will join the American Airlines AAdvantage loyalty program.

“This loyalty partnership marks a significant milestone, bringing together two renowned carriers to offer new benefits to millions of travelers,” said Andre Viljoen, managing director and CEO at Fiji Airways.

Here’s what American and Fiji’s new partnership could mean for you.

American Airlines and Fiji Airways Announce New Loyalty Partnership

American Airlines and Fiji Airways frequent flyers will soon be able to enjoy reciprocal benefits when flying with the other airline such as priority check-in and boarding, complimentary baggage allowance, preferred seats, and more.

Likewise, AAdvantage members will also be able to redeem AAdvantage miles on Fiji Airways flights.

This is particularly exciting for AAdvantage members as Fiji Airways is the only airline to operate nonstop service between Fiji and the U.S.

While a date is yet to be set, we can expect the partnership to go live “in the coming year.”

“We look forward to welcoming Fiji Airways customers into the AAdvantage® program so they can experience all the ways we deliver on our commitment that travel is better as an AAdvantage® member,” said Anmol Bhagarva, vice president of partnerships at American Airlines.

The news comes as the Fijian flag carrier prepares to become a full member of the Oneworld alliance in 2025.

Hot Tip:

Frequent fliers might consider adding an American Airlines credit card to their wallet for bonus miles earning and additional perks and benefits when flying with both carriers.

Flying Fiji Airlines From the U.S.

For a tiny island nation, Fiji Airlines has a considerable route network spanning 26 destinations in 15 countries and territories. Flying the carrier is one of the best ways to get to the South Pacific with points and miles.

Routes to North America include nonstop services from Nadi (NAN) — the airline’s hub airport on Fiji’s largest island — to Honolulu (HNL), Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), and Vancouver (YVR).

Final Thoughts

American Airlines is the first Oneworld alliance member to announce a new partnership with Fiji Airways, which means even more redemption opportunities. What’s more, Fiji Airways is set to become a full airline alliance member by 2025.
