For years now, Flighty has been the go-to flight tracker for a certain type of traveler, the person who wants to know their gate is changing before the airline sends the push notification. Today, the app is rolling out its biggest update yet, and it tackles the single most stressful moment in air travel: the connection.

The new Connection Assistant doesn’t just tell you whether your layover is tight. It tells you exactly what you need to do about it, step by step, tailored to your specific itinerary, your passport, and even your seat.

What Is Flighty?

Flighty is a flight tracking app built for people who fly a lot and want to know everything about their trip before it happens. It pulls in real-time data on delays, gate assignments, aircraft types, and turbulence forecasts, and it’s built a reputation for delivering alerts faster than the airlines themselves — often by several hours.

The app has more than a few fans among pilots, flight attendants, and frequent flyers, and it holds a 4.8-star rating in the App Store along with an Apple Design Award and a spot as an Apple App of the Year finalist. Most of its best features, including this new one, live behind the Flighty Pro subscription.

Until now, Flighty’s core value was information; think on-time performance, delay predictions, and gate changes. The new update pushes the app into something closer to a personal travel assistant, and connections are the first place that shows up.

Hot Tip:

Flighty is one of our team’s favorite travel apps. It made improvements for reliability in 2025, and now it’s getting even better.

Flighty’s New Connection Assistant

Anyone who’s sprinted across an unfamiliar airport with 25 minutes to make a flight knows the problem Connection Assistant is solving. It’s rarely the distance between gates that trips people up, it’s the not knowing whether you need to clear customs, recheck a bag, pass through security again, or switch terminals entirely. Multiply that uncertainty by an unfamiliar airport and a language you don’t speak, and a 90-minute connection can feel like a coin flip.

Connection Assistant replaces the guesswork with a checkpoint-by-checkpoint breakdown built for your specific connection. Add a flight with an international arrival and a domestic departure, and the app lays out each step: walking to passport control, clearing customs, rechecking your bag, going back through security, and getting to your new gate, complete with a typical time range for each one based on historical data.

It gets more personal from there. Add your passport and Flighty will tell you whether you’re eligible for e-gates or Global Entry, and it’ll only show you the steps that actually apply to your citizenship. A U.S. passport holder connecting through JFK sees a different set of instructions than someone traveling on a different document, and the app adjusts automatically.

The other headline feature here is Gate Predictions, which Flighty is calling an industry first. Based on a flight’s historical gate assignments, the app can predict your arrival and departure gates — sometimes down to the exact gate — from the moment you add the flight, and predictions get sharper as your travel day approaches. This works at airports worldwide, not just the U.S. hubs most flight trackers focus on.

If you travel with other Flighty users, the feature extends to Flighty Friends too, so you can check how tight a friend’s or family member’s connection is shaping up to be. That’s useful if you’re trying to coordinate a meetup at baggage claim or just want to know if you should hold the Uber.

Hot Tip:

Flighty also tells you the type of plane you’ll be flying on, which is useful for picking the best seats on board.

Final Thoughts

Connection Assistant is a genuinely useful addition for anyone who connects through unfamiliar airports on a regular basis, and it’s available now for Flighty Pro subscribers. Between the checkpoint-by-checkpoint guidance and the new Gate Predictions, it’s the kind of feature that turns a stressful sprint through a foreign terminal into something a lot more manageable.
