Frontier Airlines has adjusted the time you’ll need to be at the airport ticket counter for check-in and baggage drop starting August 16th, 2023. As of that date, you’ll need to be checked in and have your bags tagged and dropped off for your flight at the latest 1 hour prior to departure. This means you’ll need to arrive earlier at the airport to get these tasks done.

Adjustment to Check-In Cutoff Time

If you’re utilizing the ticket counters at the airport, be sure you’re there more than an hour prior to departure so you can check in yourself and your bags. After that time, you’ll be forced to move to a new flight, and Frontier is notorious for charging extra fees for this, so you’ll definitely want to avoid this predicament.

Keep in mind, checking in with an agent at the airport normally incurs a $25 fee, and you save this by checking in on the Frontier mobile app (iOS, Android) or self-tagging your bags. Either way, even if you self-tag your bags, you’ll still need to drop them at the designated point in the airport, which will close an hour prior to flight departure, so you still need to get there early enough to do this.

Why Is Frontier Doing This?

As Frontier is a low-cost carrier, most services are handled without agent assistance. Because of this, Frontier is likely seeing passengers take too long with their check-in processes, and flights are leaving late because of this (or passengers are missing their flights). To alleviate this, Frontier is asking passengers to check in earlier so that there’s plenty of time to get these bags onto the plane.

Hot Tip:

Frontier Airlines charges for checked bags, so you can save money (and time) by not checking a bag.

3 Tips To Ensure You Check In on Time

There are several times you can take into account to ensure you meet this new cut-off time, which is earlier than many other airlines:

  1. Check in on your mobile app prior to arriving at the airport.
  2. When you arrive at the airport, be sure your bags are ready to go. Avoid last-minute packing issues, or moving weight from 1 bag to another. Accomplish these tasks at home so you can simply drop your bags off at the counter.
  3. Arrive early, taking into account traffic and crowds. Remember, self-tagging a bag at the airport is free, and you’ll have lots of passengers utilizing this option, so you’ll want to arrive early to ensure you’ve got time to self-tag your bags.

Final Thoughts

Frontier is moving its check-in cutoff time to 1 hour prior to departure, which may mean you need to arrive earlier than usual at the airport. Be sure you remember this before your next flight so you don’t arrive too late!
