Hawaiian Airlines is growing its Japanese route network with the relaunch of its nonstop service from Honolulu (HNL) to Fukuoka (FUK) in Japan— for the first time in 3 years.

The service will take to the skies on April 28, 2023, just in time for the summer peak.

“We’re delighted to be returning to Fukuoka as we lead the way in reconnecting travel between Hawaiʻi and Japan,” said Theo Panagiotoulias, Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Alliances at Hawaiian Airlines. “We look forward to welcoming travelers from Fukuoka to the Hawaiian Islands and making it easy for U.S. residents to enjoy Kyushu’s famous food scene and rich culture.”

Here’s what you need to know about Hawaii’s upcoming connection with Japan.

Hawaiian Puts Fukuoka Back on the Map

Hawaiian’s return to Fukuoka will herald the only nonstop service from the U.S. to the city on the southwestern Japanese island of Kyushu.

From April 28, 2023, Hawaiian will operate 3 weekly flights with the following schedule:

  • Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays: Depart Honolulu (HNL) 1:35 p.m. — Arrive Fukuoka (FUK) 6:40 p.m. (+1)
  • Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays: Depart Fukuoka (FUK) 8:40 p.m. — Arrive Honolulu (HNL) 9:55 a.m.

Fukuoka, complete with its risqué airport code FUK, joins Osaka (KIX) and both of Tokyo’s major international airports — Haneda (HND) and Narita (NRT) — as Hawaiian’s fourth nonstop service to Japan from the Hawaiian state capital of Honolulu.

The route will be operated by Hawaiian’s fleet of Airbus A330 aircraft with a total of 278 seats. Up front, there are 18 lie-flat business class seats in a less-than-ideal 2-2-2 configuration, 68 Extra Comfort seats, and 192 seats in economy.

Prices for a round-trip flight don’t come cheap — even in economy. The cheapest fares we’re seeing start at $1,324, which you can find throughout the year.

Hot Tip: Thankfully, like most major airlines, you can redeem points and miles for Hawaiian Airlines flights instead of paying cash. Here are some of the best ways to earn Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles.

If you’re strapped for points and need to book a Hawaiian Airlines flight with cash instead, we’d advise using one of these top travel credit cards that reward you for booking airfare.

Final Thoughts

It’s great to see Hawaiian gradually rebuilding its route network with services to cities like off-the-beaten-track Fukuoka. The 3x weekly nonstop service from Honolulu will provide new and exciting travel opportunities for citizens living on both islands.
