The final week of June had a flurry of exciting hotel openings and news. A high-end Courtyard hotel opened in San Diego. Meanwhile, Hilton opened several new hotels abroad, a new Royalton resort is coming to Barbados, and Four Seasons is planning to open an ultra-luxe property in Cartagena.

Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof, South Africa

Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof has officially opened in South Africa, making the brand’s debut in the country. This hotel features 154 guest rooms, an all-day restaurant offering a diverse menu of African, Asian, and European flavors, and a fitness center.

The Marcus Portrush, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, Northern Ireland

The Marcus Portrush, Tapestry Collection by Hilton has opened in Northern Ireland with 80 guest rooms. Set in the heart of the resort town of Portrush, the hotel is a short distance from several beaches and other attractions. The Marcus Portrush boasts amenities such as a restaurant, a bar, and a fitness center.

Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Ngurah Rai, Indonesia

Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Ngurah Rai has 166 guest rooms and suites, including 147 rooms with city and pool views. The hotel is more high-end than we typically see from the Fairfield brand.

It features a lobby bar, an all-day restaurant serving international and local cuisine, and amenities such as a fitness center, a stunning outdoor pool, and a separate children’s pool.

Garner Hotel Edinburgh – Haymarket, United Kingdom

Garner Hotel Edinburgh – Haymarket has opened in time for Scotland’s summer festival season, which will see festivals like the Fringe Festival and the International Film Festival come to the region. Garner Hotel Edinburgh has 195 guest rooms and is designed for travelers on the go.

The hotel doesn’t have many amenities, but it does offer a welcome refreshment and snack, a 24-hour market, grab-and-go breakfast, and coffee.

The Hoxton, Edinburgh, United Kingdom

The Hoxton is another hotel that recently opened in Edinburgh. This hotel offers 214 guest rooms in 9 categories. Three of the rooms are part of The Hoxton’s newest room category, House, which is a self-contained 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom home.

Amenities include an Italian restaurant, a bar, and a meeting space comprising 4 private rooms: a dining room, a library, a living room, and a drawing room.

Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Downtown Little Italy, California 

The Little Italy Hotel in Downtown San Diego is set to convert to the Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Downtown Little Italy later this summer; however, the hotel is currently open for guests. The 334-room hotel has some exciting room types that aren’t standard for the mid-tier Courtyard brand. These include 2-story townhouse-style suites (which include separate living areas) and standard guest rooms with private balconies.

Amenities include a skydeck pool, a terrace, a fitness studio, a business center, a sundry shop, and more than 10,000 square feet of flexible event space. While the hotel doesn’t officially become a Marriott Bonvoy property until August 1, you can start earning Marriott Bonvoy points here now.

Hotel Bourré Bonne Louisville, Curio Collection by Hilton, Kentucky

The 168-room Hotel Bourré Bonne Louisville, Curio Collection by Hilton, has opened in the center of Downtown Louisville. The hotel has 2 dining options: a steakhouse and a rooftop bar and restaurant.

Other amenities include a swimming pool, cabanas with poolside service, and, in a nod to Kentucky’s roots, a bourbon bar.

Upcoming Hotels

Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Cartagena, Colombia (Late 2025)

The Four Seasons brand is synonymous with luxury, and it’s bringing that reputation to Cartegena, Colombia, later this year. The Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Cartagena is set to open in late 2025 with 131 guest rooms and suites. Amenities will include 8 restaurants and lounges, a spa with 6 treatment rooms, a rooftop with 2 swimming pools, a fitness center, and even a beauty salon

Royalton Vessence Barbados, An Autograph Collection, Barbados (Summer 2026)

Royalton announced a new brand this week, Royalton Vessence, which is an “adults-oriented” brand seeking to reimagine the all-inclusive experience. Its first resort will be the Royalton Vessence Barbados, An Autograph Collection, which opens next summer. This resort was initially announced as Royalton CHIC Barbados; however, Royalton stated that it changed the branding to align “more closely with the essence of the destination.”

The resort will have 220 guest rooms and suites, 14 restaurants and bars, a spa, several swimming pools, and a fitness center.

voco Makes Canadian Debut

IHG made some exciting announcements regarding its voco brand this week. Voco will make its debut in Canada, with IHG signing deals for hotels in Montreal, Toronto, and Niagara Falls.

Here’s a look at each hotel:

  • voco Niagara Falls – Fallsview (2026): This hotel will feature 232 guest rooms, equipped with amenities like a restaurant, coffee shop, indoor pool, and fitness center.
  • voco Montreal (2027): voco Montreal will feature 55 guest rooms, a restaurant, and a lobby lounge concept.
  • voco Toronto Airport West (2027): Located near Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), voco Toronto Airport West will have 180 guest rooms, a restaurant and bar, a fitness center, and 3,500 square feet of meeting space.

Marriott Expands in El Salvador

Marriott announced this week that it had signed a deal to open 4 City Express by Marriott properties in El Salvador, marking the debut of the brand in the country. 

The first hotel, City Centro by Marriott San Salvador, is scheduled to open at the end of 2025. It will have 31 guest rooms and will be a 30-minute drive from Ilopango International Airport. Two additional hotels, City Express by Marriott Aeropuerto and City Express by Marriott Santa Elena, are scheduled to open in 2026, while City Express Plus by Marriott San Benito is set to open in 2027.

Final Thoughts

June ended on a strong note in the hotel industry. A handful of new hotels opened in South Africa, San Diego, and Louisville, while some exciting hotels are planned for Cartagena and Barbados in the near future.
