IHG is making a step in the green direction.
Through a partnership with Unilever, IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced it will be removing single-use plastic bottle miniatures from 4,000 hotels worldwide.
“IHG has pioneered the move to minimal waste in the hospitality industry and we’re excited to spell the end of bathroom miniatures through our collaboration with Unilever,” said Yasmin Diamond, Executive Vice President of Global Corporate Affairs at IHG Hotels & Resorts.
However, that doesn’t mean the end for luxurious bathroom amenities.
Move Over Miniatures
As part of the hotel giant’s aim to completely eliminate all single-use plastic by 2030, each of IHG’s brands now has a bulk bathroom amenity contract in place.
The move could certainly go in IHG’s favor when environmentally-conscious travelers are considering their next hotel stay.

Contrarily, hotel miniatures are deemed by many as one of the little luxuries of staying at hotels. Time will tell as to whether replacing this perk with wall-mounted refillable bottles could be enough to put guests off.
The exact Unilever brand you’ll find in your hotel room will depend on exactly where you are in the world, as well as the type of IHG hotel you’re staying at.
For example, the body lotion, body wash, conditioner, hand wash, and shampoo in IHG Essentials and Suites Collection hotels (including avid hotels, Candlewood Suites, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and Staybridge Suites) will be by Dove.
The removal of bathroom miniatures is just part of IHG’s sustainability project. By 2030, the group wants to completely eliminate all single-use plastic items, significantly reduce food waste, and introduce circular solutions for important hotel commodity items.
“We’ll continue to find innovative solutions for operating more sustainably to deliver our purpose of True Hospitality for Good,” said Diamond.
Final Thoughts
It’s nice to see that IHG is making strides to clean up its plastic act, especially at a time when the number of travelers jetting off on vacation again is significantly rising.
Removing miniature plastic in all hotel rooms is a strong step in the right direction that we’d love to see be rolled out by other hotels around the world.
