IHG is bringing the luxury InterContinental brand to San Antonio later this year, and the property is expected to turn heads.

Let’s take a look at the news!

Debut of the Luxury Brand in San Antonio

The 21-story InterContinental San Antonio Riverwalk will feature 390 rooms with 20 suites in downtown San Antonio.

The hotel’s planned amenities include 18,000 square feet of meeting space, a 1,800-square-foot fitness center, on-site valet parking, a rooftop pool, a Club InterContinental lounge, and 4 restaurant and bar options.

The hotel will also be located less than 1 mile from the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and have easy access to a water taxi landing zone.

“InterContinental San Antonio Riverwalk will bring a fresh take on luxury to the dynamic and diverse city of San Antonio,” said General Manager Stefan Gruvberger. “Our property will bring world-class accommodations, modern amenities and innovative design to guests while forging a deep connection to the local community through unique programming, transformative experiences and more.”

InterContinental is one of the world’s largest and most storied luxury hotel brands. Founded in the mid-1940s by Pan American Airways founder Juan Trippe, the brand emphasizes high-end experiences. Today, there are more than 220 InterContinental hotels in 70 countries.

The opening of an InterContinental brand is a big deal for San Antonio, Texas’ second-largest city by population. IHG also appears to be heavily invested in the Texas market. The chain says 15 new properties across 8 brands are in the pipeline for the state of Texas this year.

Booking InterContinental San Antonio Riverwalk

The InterContinental San Antonio Riverwalk is accepting reservations after November 1, 2024. The hotel is participating in the IHG One Rewards program, which means you can earn and redeem points at the property.

Cash rates at the Intercontinental San Antonio Riverwalk start at around $320 per night for dates this fall.

Award nights can be found for around 59,000 points per night, which is a pretty good redemption rate for an InterContinental property.

Hot Tip:

It’s pretty easy to earn IHG One Rewards points. The program is a transfer partner of 2 major programs: Bilt Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards. You can also earn points through a welcome bonus and daily spending on 1 of the best cards for IHG loyalists.

Final Thoughts

San Antonio is getting its first InterContinental hotel, and it’s fairly affordable with cash or IHG One Reward points. While the hotel isn’t open for guests yet, you can still book your stay for the fall or early 2025 starting now!
