Once I book a flight, I usually don’t check up on it. That ticket is booked, my seat is selected, and there’s little reason to torture myself by constantly checking for a price change.

Except, as it turns out, there might be a good reason to keep checking.

Depending on the airline and the fare you booked, if your flight price drops before departure, you may be able to receive the difference back. That’s where Junova comes in: The service monitors your flights for price drops and secures them for you, so you don’t have to.

In less than 24 hours, Junova caught a price drop with my booking, which saved me $62 without changing my flight, seat, or reservation. Here’s how Junova works, what it costs, which airlines are eligible, and what you should know before submitting your next trip.

What Is Junova?

Junova offers 1 simple service: monitoring the price of an eligible flight you’ve already booked. If the fare drops and you’re eligible to receive the difference, Junova handles securing those savings from the airline.

To be clear, Junova isn’t canceling your ticket and booking you onto a cheaper flight. After you’ve forwarded the original email, if Junova secures any savings, you’ll get a confirmation email about them. For nonrefundable fares, you’ll typically receive the difference as an airline credit, while eligible refundable fares can be refunded to your original form of payment.

It’s pretty automatic and straightforward. Junova charges just 20% of the savings, and you only pay if the service actually saves you money.

Hot Tip:

New Junova users can get $25 in Junova credit when they sign up using code “upgraded” or via this link. The credit is automatically added to your Junova account and can be used toward Junova’s 20% success fee when it finds and captures a lower fare for your flight. The credit never expires and can be used alongside any airfare savings Junova finds for you.

How Junova Saved Me $62

I decided to test Junova with an upcoming American Airlines cash flight I’d already booked.

After signing up for Junova online, all I had to do was forward my original airline confirmation to tickets@junova.ai. That’s how I’ve always sent them my confirmations, but you could also connect your inbox if you’d rather have Junova automatically pick up eligible bookings.

Less than 24 hours after I forwarded my confirmation, I got an email from Junova letting me know that the price of my flight had dropped. I didn’t have to search for the lower fare myself, call American Airlines, or change anything about my reservation.

Junova handled the process, and shortly after, American Airlines emailed me to confirm my new trip credit.

In my case, Junova scored $62 in savings. Because the service fee charges a 20% success fee, my net savings came to about $49.60 after the $12.40 fee. While $49 won’t entirely fund my next trip, considering I earned it from forwarding an email, I’ll happily pocket it.

And this wasn’t actually the first time Junova saved me money. I’ve previously saved another $84 on a flight using the service, and the same flight can even drop in price and generate additional savings more than once.

My experience isn’t necessarily representative of what everyone will save, either. According to Junova, its average savings is $88.84, while its recent savings tracker and leaderboard show some travelers saving hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

I originally booked the flight with my Platinum Card® from American Express, which earns 5x points on flights purchased directly with the airline or with AmexTravel.com (up to $500,000 per year, then 1x points).

American Express Membership Rewards

Using Junova didn’t change how I booked the flight or which card I used, but it gave me another opportunity to save after the purchase was already made. This way, I’m saving cash on my original fare while earning flexible Membership Rewards points with my Amex Platinum card.

You Don’t Need To Constantly Check Your Flight

Perhaps the sweetest part of this whole deal is the peace of mind. I’ve personally loved the freedom of booking a flight, forwarding my details, and letting Junova do the rest.

As someone who flies pretty consistently, I simply don’t have the capacity or the desire to check for savings. While I’m obviously more apt to use points and miles to book travel, when I do have a cash fare, Junova ensures I’m getting the best deal possible. That said, not every booking is eligible.

Who Can Use Junova?

If you booked a cash fare directly with one of Junova’s supported U.S. airlines (and it wasn’t basic economy), there’s a good chance your flight is eligible.

Junova currently works with Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines, including international, multi-city, and open-jaw trips booked with these carriers. And there are a few important rules to keep in mind:

  • You must book directly with the airlines, so reservations made through an online travel agency (OTA), such as Expedia, aren’t eligible.
  • Basic economy fares and flights booked with points and miles aren’t supported either.
  • Flights purchased using airline credits are eligible, with an exception to note: If the original credits would’ve expired by the time Junova secures the savings, you won’t receive those savings since the returned credits would already be expired.
  • If you’re traveling with multiple people on the same reservation, you only need to submit the booking once so Junova can monitor it for everyone.
  • Travelers booked under separate confirmation numbers will need to submit those reservations separately.

That means a Delta flight purchased through Expedia, for example, isn’t currently eligible even though Delta itself is supported. And if you frequently book basic economy, only award tickets, or flights through OTAs, Junova may be considerably less useful to you.

Bottom Line:

If you’re paying for standard economy or higher directly with one of Junova’s 5 supported airlines, there’s a good chance your flight is eligible.

Would I Use Junova Again?

Personally, I think Junova rocks, with the caveat that not every flight I book will qualify. Junova makes the most sense for travelers who:

  • Usually book directly with Delta, United, American, Alaska, or Southwest
  • Buy standard economy or higher rather than basic economy
  • Frequently pay cash for airfare
  • Will realistically use airline credits before they expire
  • Don’t want to keep checking airfare after they’ve already booked

While I’m still very much a points-and-miles person, I travel enough and book enough cash fares, even small domestic hops, that Junova makes sense. My recent savings alone put a nice chunk of cash in my pocket, and I didn’t have to change how I booked my trip or add another thing to my to-do list.

Final Thoughts

I book a lot of flights, and once I’ve paid for one, I’m usually thinking about the next part of the trip. Repeatedly checking whether the airfare I already paid for dropped by $20, $50, or $100 is not my idea of a good time.

With Junova, I forwarded an email and went on with the rest of my day. When the price dropped, it snagged the savings I otherwise would’ve missed. For me, that’s worth 20% of my money that I didn’t know was available in the first place.
