Status matches from one airline or hotel program to a competitor’s program are becoming increasingly common. The latest offer comes from Miles & More, the loyalty program of multiple airlines, including Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, and Brussels Airlines.

The Lufthansa Group is targeting customers with British Airways and Iberia elite status. Luckily, there aren’t any geographic restrictions on this offer, meaning you can live anywhere and still be eligible.

Let’s take a look at the details.

Lufthansa Status Match Offer for British Airways and Iberia Elites

Those with elite status in British Airways Club or Iberia Plus may be frustrated by recent changes to the programs, making elite status harder to earn in the future. The Lufthansa Group is hoping those disgruntled customers have €99 in their pocket — the cost of a status match over to the Miles & More program.

Unfortunately, status matches aren’t available to top-tier HON Circle status, though members can match to Frequent Traveller or Senator status as follows:

To apply for a status match, you need the following:

  • A current Miles & More membership number
  • Proof of your current elite status with British Airways or Iberia
  • Proof of your identity

Applications are available here.

There are a few terms you should know about this offer:

  • Decisions are made within 3 days of submission.
  • All applicants receive an email stating whether their application was approved, but they can reference the status page here.
  • If approved, your new status will be active within 10 days
  • Matched status will be valid through February 28, 2026.
  • The application fee is €99 (roughly $113).
  • The status match is available for a limited time and could end at any time, at Lufthansa’s discretion.

Is It Worth It?

If you’re looking to test out a new airline, potentially making this Star Alliance program your new favorite, this is a solid option if you have status with Iberia or British Airways. We’ve seen status match opportunities with fees much higher than this, so €99 is quite reasonable.

Well, reasonable if you’d get at least that much value from your new benefits. Paying the fee and then never flying with a participating airline wouldn’t be worth it. You should only apply for the status match if you plan to recoup the cost of the application fee through new benefits.

You can compare the Frequent Traveller and Senator benefits here to get an idea of whether the perks would be worth it for you. Example benefits include upgrade vouchers, waiting list priority, complimentary seat selection on flights, lounge access, premier check-in access, and complimentary checked baggage.

Final Thoughts

For a limited time, Miles & More is offering a status match to elites of both Iberia Plus and British Airways Club. There’s no listed end date, so this offer could end at any time — and without warning. If you have status with British Airways or Iberia and are considering a move to a different airline, this could be a good time to test out the Lufthansa Group for a reasonable fee.
