Marriott announced the new, affordable Four Points Express by Sheraton brand in September 2023, Properties are open or opening in the U.K., Türkiye, and Japan, with some of those being conversions from other hotel brands.

Here, you’ll earn 1 elite night credit for every 2 nights stayed and 5x points per $1 spent — half the normal earning rates at most Marriott brands. In addition to reduced earnings at these properties, Marriott has now reduced the value of the welcome gift for elite members staying there. Here’s what travelers need to know about the change.

Elite Welcome Gift Changes at Four Points Express by Sheraton

For Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite and higher members, the welcome benefit at Four Points Express by Sheraton was previously 500 points per stay or breakfast in the restaurant each day (including 1 guest). Now, Mariott’s benefits page provides a few caveats to this benefit. The hotel can require you to take the points if the restaurant is closed, if there isn’t a restaurant, or if the restaurant is operated by a third party.

That means members may find some of these properties operating a restaurant without offering breakfast to elite members.

Additionally, Marriott has decreased the value of its guest compensation at Four Points Express by Sheraton properties where the hotel fails to honor guaranteed elite benefits. Previously, the payout was $50. Now, it’s just $25.

Bottom Line:

Guests staying at Four Points Express by Sheraton properties can choose between points or breakfast when checking in. However, Marriott’s terms indicate some of these properties won’t have a restaurant or may have a third-party provider, and your complimentary breakfast option won’t be available on such stays.

Final Thoughts

Those with Marriott Platinum Elite or higher status should know their benefits to ensure they are received. In this case, breakfast is no longer a guaranteed option at Four Points Express by Sheraton properties, and the hotel’s compensation — in cases where benefits aren’t provided as they should be — got cut in half.
