Qantas is an airline that is renowned for its superb lounges around the world.

Thanks to an ongoing refurbishment project, we can look forward to an even better experience soon as Qantas details the opening schedule for its updated lounges at Auckland (AKL), Los Angeles (LAX), and Sydney (SYD).

“As the demand for premium travel increases, we’re creating more space, more dining options and a completely enhanced on-ground experience in our new Sydney International Business Lounge and Auckland International Lounge,” said Cam Wallace, Qantas’ CEO.

Here are the details.

Refurbished Auckland Lounge Opens on December 17

Just in time for the peak Christmas travel period, Qantas will open the doors of its fully-refurbished lounge at Auckland — New Zealand’s main international gateway.

This lounge is an important investment for Qantas, not only for its many daily departures bound for Australia but also because Auckland is the departure airport for Qantas’ only nonstop flight to New York (JFK).

“We continue to see such strong demand for our direct flights through to New York and across the Tasman and this new lounge will transform the experience for our international customers pre-flight,” Wallace said.

Qantas’ Sydney International Business Class Lounge Will Close for Refurbishment

On December 8, Qantas’ International Business Class lounge will close for the final stage of its refurbishment. Until the lounge reopens in 2027, passengers will be directed to either the temporary Qantas International Business Class lounge in Terminal 1 or the Plaza Premium Lounge.

The lounge’s reopening date is set to coincide with the launch of Qantas’ ultra-long-haul Project Sunrise flights that will offer nonstop service from Sydney to JFK and London (LHR).

The pièce de résistance is the open-air Sky Terrace, offering sweeping views over the aprons and runways and providing an opportunity to soak up as much natural light as possible before an ultra-long-haul flight.

Upgrades Are Underway at Qantas’ LAX Lounge

And finally, as the U.S. airport with the most Qantas flights, it’s only right that the LAX business class lounge was part of the refurb plan.

You can fly nonstop from LAX with Qantas to Brisbane (BNE), Melbourne (MEL), and Sydney.

According to Qantas, the refurbishment is already underway. We’ve reached out to Qantas regarding its scheduled completion date and will update this article once we have more information.

Final Thoughts

Qantas’ lounge refurbishments are just a small part of a broader investment in the passenger experience that includes new Airbus A321XLRs and yet-to-be-delivered Airbus A350-1000s that will operate its highly anticipated Project Sunrise flights from 2027.
