Vancouver will be the second Canadian city to welcome a Park Hyatt hotel.

The property, which was formerly the Shangri-La Vancouver, will be converted into a luxury Park Hyatt.

“We’re excited for our plan to introduce the Park Hyatt brand to Vancouver in 2026, once we further elevate the hotel with refined design and signature experiences for our guests and World of Hyatt members,” said Scott Richer, vice president of development and owner relations for Canada at Hyatt.

Here are the details.

Park Hyatt Vancouver

Park Hyatt’s arrival in Vancouver will mark only the second of its kind in Canada. The property has already left the Shangri-La brand and entered Hyatt‘s ever-growing portfolio.

A multi-million dollar refurbishment of the property should be finished by the end of 2026, according to Hyatt. From the spa and lobby to the guest rooms, every inch of the property will be leveled up to the 5-star standard that we expect from a Park Hyatt.

However, you don’t have to wait until then to stay at the property. Hyatt is taking an uncommon approach and opening the hotel as Hyatt Downtown Alberni. Once the refurbishment is complete, the hotel will rebrand as a Park Hyatt. Suffice it to say, the property looks to be in luxe shape as it is.

The 119-room Hyatt downtown Alberni is available to book now with cash or points via Hyatt’s website or the World of Hyatt app. Members’ Advance Purchase nightly rates for the Category 7 property start at around $397 per night.

After checking several dates, we were unable to find any points redemption rates for a stay at the Hyatt Downtown Alberni. As a Category 7 hotel, you’ll pay between 25,000 and 35,000 points per night.

Booking a Stay at a Park Hyatt

The best way to book a Park Hyatt is by using World of Hyatt points.

As the hotel is in the most luxurious category of Hyatt’s portfolio, cash rates can often be high. Some of the best value Park Hyatt redemptions can be found at the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme, the Park Hyatt New York, and the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa.

Hot Tip:

When paying cash for a stay at a Hyatt property, you might want to consider using a Hyatt cobranded credit card to earn bonus points and enjoy additional perks and benefits during your stay.

Final Thoughts

By the end of 2026, Canada will have its second Park Hyatt with the opening of the Park Hyatt Vancouver.

Until then, visitors to the city can still enjoy the ex Shangri-La property as the Hyatt Downtown Alberni.
