PNC has launched a new credit card designed to help you save money on interest. Meet the PNC Spend Wise℠.

Along with an 18-month introductory Annual Percentage Rate (APR) offer on both purchases and balance transfers, the card offers automatic consideration for a lower APR with qualifying activity.

Should you add this card to your wallet? Let’s take a closer look at the details.

New PNC Spend Wise Card Details

The new PNC Spend Wise card has a $0 annual fee and a minimum credit line of $500. There aren’t any rewards offered on this card, so you won’t earn any points or cash-back. Instead, this card is geared toward those who need to finance purchases and save money on interest while doing so.

First, the card offers an 18-month introductory 0% APR period on both purchases and balance transfers. The balance transfer offer applies to transfers made within 90 days of account opening, and there’s a 4% or $5 (whichever is greater) balance transfer fee. After the 18-month period, a variable APR of 19.49% to 27.49% applies, based on creditworthiness.

The PNC Spend Wise card also offers the ability to earn a 2% reduction on your standard APR by meeting these criteria in a 12-month period:

  • Make at least $3,000 in qualifying purchases on your card.
  • Pay at least your minimum payment amount by the due date.

Other features of this card include price protection, purchase protection, and cell phone protection (up to an $800 limit). Cardholders also get up to $25 in annual statement credits toward subscriptions from Netflix, Spotify, or Disney+.

Should You Apply?

The PNC Spend Wise card doesn’t offer rewards for spending, and there’s no welcome bonus. This card isn’t targeted toward those who want to boost their balances from spending.

Instead, it’s a card for people who are trying to save money while paying off purchases or existing credit card balances.

Consider someone with a $5,000 balance on their credit card with a 20% APR. Over the course of 18 months, that person will pay $558 in interest.

Transferring that balance to the PNC Spend Wise card will incur a 4% fee ($20), but the interest savings more than justify that cost, helping pay down the balance without interest accruing for 18 months.

The same can be said for people with large purchases coming up — purchases that will take time to pay off. Think new appliances, a project around the house, or unexpected car repairs. Avoiding interest on those purchases for 18 months can lead to big savings.

Final Thoughts

The new PNC Spend Wise card doesn’t offer cash-back or travel-related benefits. However, it offers an 18-month introductory period with 0% APR on both purchases and balance transfers. For those financing purchases or paying down debt, the savings opportunities from that offer and the APR reduction feature can add tangible savings.
