There’s a new airline coming to California.

Toronto-based Porter Airlines has announced its plans to launch 2 new services starting in January 2024.

“Our arrival in California will be welcomed by those looking for a new way to travel between the West Coast and Canada,” said Kevin Jackson, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Porter Airlines.

Here are the details.

Porter Airlines’ New Routes to California

Porter Airlines will land in California for the first time when it launches nonstop service from Toronto (YYZ) to Los Angeles (LAX) on January 16, 2024.

The schedule for the daily service is as follows:

  • Depart Toronto-Pearson (YYZ) 10:30 a.m. — Arrive Los Angeles (LAX) 1:05 p.m.
  • Depart Los Angeles (LAX) 2:45 p.m. — Arrive Toronto-Pearson (YYZ) 10:32 p.m.

When the service to LA begins in mid-January, Porter will join Air Canada and Lynx as the third Canadian airline to operate nonstop flights between the 2 cities.

Curiously, no U.S.-based airlines operate the route.

Later in the month on January 25, 2024, Porter’s second California-bound service will depart for San Francisco with the following schedule:

  • Depart Toronto-Pearson (YYZ) 10:30 a.m. — Arrive San Francisco (SFO) 1:22 p.m.
  • Depart San Francisco (SFO) 2:50 p.m. — Arrive Toronto-Pearson (YYZ) 10:36 p.m.

As with the L.A. route, Porter will become the third airline offering nonstop service between Toronto and San Francisco. However, a U.S. carrier — United Airlines — also operates the route.

There are a couple of reasons you might prefer to fly Porter on these new routes rather than one of the incumbent airlines. First of all, the airline offers all passengers free, unlimited, speedy Wi-Fi which is even good enough to stream on personal devices.

Not only that, but all passengers will receive complimentary premium snacks and have the option of free beer and wine which is even served in proper glassware rather than plastic. We see you, Porter!

Hot Tip:

If you’re tempted to try out Porter’s leveled-up economy experience on its new routes to Canada’s largest city, then you’ll probably need somewhere to stay when you get there — take a look at this list of beautiful boutique hotels in Toronto.

Both new routes to L.A. and San Francisco will be operated by Porter Airline’s fleet of Embraer E195-E2 aircraft which the airline describes as being the most environmentally-friendly single-aisle aircraft in the skies.

The jets feature 132 economy seats in a 2-2 configuration.

Final Thoughts

Porter Airlines will become the third airline to connect both Los Angeles and San Francisco with Toronto from January 2024. We’re looking forward to seeing the launch of these new transcontinental routes and are looking forward to more from Porter in the future!
