Las Vegas will welcome nonstop flights from Sydney this year.

The new seasonal route will open up more travel possibilities in both directions.

“Last year, 745,000 Americans visited Australia, and we look forward to welcoming even more visitors down under with the commencement of these new direct flights,” said Don Farrell, Australian minister for trade and tourism.

Here are the details of this intriguing new route Down Under.

Qantas New’ Nonstop Las Vegas to Sydney Flight

Qantas is making history as the only airline to offer a regularly scheduled nonstop service to Las Vegas (LAS) from Sydney (SYD). Starting on December 29, 2026, and running through March 12, 2027, the route will be the Australian flag carrier’s eighth destination in the U.S.

The new service will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, in both directions with the following schedule:

  • Depart Sydney (SYD) at 9 p.m. and arrive in Las Vegas (LAS) at 3:55 p.m.
  • Depart Las Vegas (LAS) at 8:20 p.m. and arrive in Sydney (SYD) at 6:35 a.m. (+2)

The airline’s fleet of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners will operate the route. The jets are equipped with 42 lie-flat seats in business class, 28 seats in premium economy, and 166 economy seats.

This nonstop service to Las Vegas is primarily aimed at Australian leisure travelers. However, it also provides U.S.-based travelers with a new way to get to Australia.

Booking Qantas Flights to Sydney From Vegas

As the route has just launched, award availability is scarce.

I checked American Airlines AAdvantage, Air France-KLM Flying Blue, and Qantas Frequent Flyer. The only availability I managed to find for a one-way flight from Las Vegas to Sydney was via Qantas’ Frequent Flyer in economy for 48,200 points plus $78 in taxes and fees.

If you value Qantas Points around 1.3 cents each, this one-way ticket would have a cash value equivalent of around $704.

As a round-trip fares via Qantas’ website clock in at $1,086, paying cash makes more sense in this instance. You’re spending much more in the end if you pay $704 worth of cash and points for each leg, rather than $1,086 for both flights together on a round-trip cash fare.

The lowest cash fares I found in business class were almost $6,300. In this case, booking using awards (when they become available) could probably save thousands of dollars.

Qantas business class aware seats are readily available on other routes. Check out our complete guide on the best ways to book Qantas business class using points and miles.

Final Thoughts

More nonstop flights to Australia are always welcome. Qantas clearly believes there’s enough demand to make this rather niche route a success.

With more planes to be delivered, who knows where could be next. I’m hoping for more nonstop flights between Oceania and South America!
