Travelers can now book Qantas’ new route between Honolulu (HNL) and Melbourne (MEL), which is scheduled to take flight for the first time in May 2025.

“We are thrilled to continue to enhance our network in America with the launch of a new route from Melbourne to Honolulu, bringing a new, tropical destination to our Melbourne customers,” said Cam Wallace, CEO at Qantas International.

Here are the details of Qantas new route to Hawaii and how to book it for yourself.

Fly Nonstop From Honolulu to Melbourne

Tickets have gone on sale for Qantas’ 8th nonstop service to the U.S.

When the service takes off for the first time from Melbourne on May 3, 2025, it will join Sydney (SYD) as the second Australian city with nonstop service to the Hawaiian capital.

The new route will operate 3 times per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays with the following schedule:

  • Depart Honolulu (HNL) 9:40 a.m. — Arrive Melbourne (MEL) 5:15 p.m. (+1)
  • Depart Melbourne (MEL) 5:05 p.m. — Arrive Honolulu (HNL) 7:40 a.m.

Jetstar, the low-cost subsidiary of Qantas, will no longer operate this service once Qantas’ flights start. This will significantly improve the passenger experience onboard.

“Our new service ensures continued connectivity for Melbournians to Hawaii while enabling Jetstar to redeploy its 787 aircraft to other destinations and long-haul routes,” explained Wallace.

Qantas offers economy and business class on its Airbus A330 aircraft, which can be anywhere between 11 and 22 years old.

With the launch of the route, travelers will have a new way of using miles to get from Hawaii (and wider U.S.) to Australia.

Redemptions start at 31,500 Qantas Points plus $58 for a one-way ticket in economy.

To celebrate the launch of this new route, Qantas is offering round-trip pricing starting at just $707 in economy, but this is only for trips departing Melbourne, not from Honolulu.

Hot Tip:

Qantas also has an esteemed first class cabin which is only available on flights operated by its fleet of Superjumbo Airbus A380 aircraft. What’s more, you can even book it using miles!

Final Thoughts

It’s great to see Qantas is increasing connectivity between Australia and the U.S. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait too much longer for the news of an official launch date for Project Sunrise, Qantas’ ambitious plan to offer non-stop flights between Sydney and New York using its A350-1000 aircraft by 2026.
