QantasLink’s Route Network

QantasLink is a subsidiary of Qantas, which you’ve probably heard of. QantasLink, however, doesn’t fly beyond Oceania.

Instead, it operates a network across Australia — which is solid — and flights between Australia and several of its neighbors. These include Wellington, New Zealand; Noumea, New Caledonia; Port Vila, Vanuatu; Honiara, Solomon Islands; and Dili, Timor-Leste.

QantasLink operates a fleet of single-aisle aircraft, including Airbus A220, A319, and A320 aircraft, as well as Embraer E190, Fokker 100, and De Havilland Canada Dash 8 planes.

All QantasLink flights offer online check-in, complimentary beverages, and a meal or a snack, depending on flight length.

Redeem British Airways Avios for QantasLink Flights

As QantasLink is a subsidiary of Qantas, it’s long been possible to use Qantas Frequent Flyer points to book QantasLink flights. Alternatively, if you pay for your QantasLink flight, you earn points and elite status credits on your flight.

However, the ability to book these flights through British Airways Club, using your Avios, is a new development, as first noticed by AwardWallet.

Flights from Brisbane (BNE) to Port Vila (VLI) in Vanuatu, a popular getaway for Australians, is available for 12,500 Avios plus $82.40. The flight costs $210 if booked in cash.

Meanwhile, using Qantas Points costs more: 13,800 points plus AU$118 ($79).

You can also find short hops for just 6,500 Avios, such as Melbourne (MEL) to Sydney (SYD) or Melbourne to Hobart (HBA).

However, some of these flights are rather cheap, given the competition and short flight distance, so redeeming your British Airways Avios might not provide the best value.

Search results are fickle right now. While some accounts — especially those with a U.K. address — show QantasLink flights easily, others say there are no results. Logging out or refreshing the page might make those flights show up, so persistence is key.
