This week, Jordan flag carrier Royal Jordanian teased a new U.S. route on its Instagram page. The airline will add nonstop flights between its hub in Amman (AMM) and Washington, D.C. (IAD).

Here’s what you need to know.

Royal Jordanian Adding D.C. Flights

Royal Jordanian has somewhat cheekily announced that it would begin nonstop flights between Amman (AMM) and Washington, D.C.’s Dulles International Airport (IAD). This isn’t the first time flights have operated between the 2 capital cities: United Airlines flew nonstop between Amman and Washington, D.C. but nixed the route this past August. Now, the route is returning, but through an entirely new airline alliance.

It’s unclear when the route will begin, its frequency, or the aircraft type Royal Jordanian will use. This will become Royal Jordanian’s fourth U.S. route, after Chicago (ORD), Detroit (DTW), and New York (JFK). The airline also serves Montreal (YUL) and Toronto (YYZ).

Royal Jordanian is Jordan’s national airline and is based in the capital, Amman. Founded in 1963, the airline serves nearly 50 destinations in 29 countries and territories. It has been a member of the Oneworld alliance since 2007.

Booking Royal Jordanian Through Airline Partners

Royal Jordanian has its own loyalty program, Royal Club.

But if you find yourself traveling to Amman, the Middle East, or points beyond, there are other ways to book Royal Jordanian. As I mentioned earlier, the airline is a member of the Oneworld alliance, and you can book flights through partners like American Airlines AAdvantage or Cathay Pacific Asia Miles.

For instance, a one-way flight on Royal Jordanian between Chicago and Amman can cost just 70,000 AAdvantage miles. Want to use Asia Miles instead? You’re in luck, as business-class flights usually price out around 75,000 miles one-way between New York and Amman.

Luckily, earning points or miles through these programs is pretty simple. For instance, you can earn AAdvantage miles by flying American, opening a co-branded credit card, or transferring points from Marriott Bonvoy. Earning Asia Miles is even easier: The program is a transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Brex Rewards, Capital One miles, Citi ThankYou Rewards, and Marriott.

Hot Tip:

Royal Jordanian just made Royal Club status much easier for U.S. travelers to earn. Previously, you had to fly a minimum number of flights with the airline. However, Royal Jordanian has confirmed that guests can earn up to Platinum Hawk status — the highest tier — simply by crediting partner flights to Royal Club.

Final Thoughts

Royal Jordanian is adding nonstop flights to Washington, D.C., its fourth U.S. destination and sixth in North America. This route will be appreciated by travelers impacted by United’s decision to end service between D.C. and Amman. We’ll update this post when we know more about when the route will begin or its average cash price.
