If you weren’t aware, SAS recently joined SkyTeam after leaving Star Alliance. As part of that move, it’s linking up with newfound partners, and award pricing is coming online through programs you couldn’t use to book SAS award flights previously.

If you were waiting for SAS flights to be available with Flying Blue miles, rejoice. We’ve been refreshing our browsers all day, and the occasion is finally here. Even better, pricing is overall really good.

Let’s take a look.

SAS Awards Bookable With Flying Blue Miles

Typically, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) routes to the U.S. depart from Stockholm (ARN) or Copenhagen (CPH). You can now use Flying Blue miles to book these awards. This comes on the heels of some SAS awards being bookable with Delta SkyMiles, which is all happening now that SAS joined SkyTeam. Let’s check out some award pricing.

How does Chicago to Copenhagen for 21,300 miles per passenger in economy sound? Even better, how would you like that flight for 40,900 miles in business class?

You’ll pay $32.30 in taxes and fees for either option, which is considerably less than what you’ll pay when flying with Air France or KLM. In contrast, you’ll pay 20,000 Flying Blue miles for economy awards with those airlines or 50,000 miles in business class. This is a deal for the SAS flight, for sure.

What if you’re connecting onward? You’ll pay 24,700 miles in economy to fly from Chicago through Cophengan to Frankfurt. That price climbs to 49,300 miles in business class. In contrast, Air France and KLM flights would cost 20,000 and 50,000 miles per person for economy or business, respectively. Those business-class awards can be tough to find, though, and prices climb wildly as seats fill up.

From Los Angeles, you can fly to Copenhagen for 28,100 miles in economy. Since Flying Blue previously standardized award flights on Air France and KLM between the U.S. and Europe, you could book those for 20,000 Flying Blue miles each, though with about $80 more in taxes and fees than what you’ll pay flying with SAS.

And for short flights in Europe, things get very interesting. You could book this flight from Copenhagen to Frankfurt for just 3,400 miles in economy or 8,400 miles in business class. You’ll pay $32.90 in taxes and fees for either award, and note the huge price difference if you would take a connecting flight with KLM.

Final Thoughts

SAS awards are coming online with SkyTeam partners. We’ve got Delta and Flying Blue now, and it will be interesting to see what award prices look like when they’re available from Korean Air, Aeromexico, and Virgin Atlantic.

So far, the pricing through Flying Blue looks really nice.
