Summer is just around the corner, and Southwest is gearing up with a few new routes to look forward to.

The pioneer of low-cost air travel has announced that it’ll be adding 2 new seasonal services from the nation’s capital.

The once-daily services from Raegan National Airport (DCA) to Albany (ALB) and Memphis (MEM) will start on July 11, 2023.

“The additional slots that became available for this upcoming summer will allow Southwest to bring the benefits of competition, convenience, and our best-in-class service by linking more cities nonstop with Washington, D.C.” said Andrew Watterson, chief operating officer at Southwest Airlines.

Here are the details.

New Summer Services Coming to DCA

More low-cost Southwest fares are coming to the nation’s capital this summer with the launch of its 2 new daily services to Albany and Memphis. Rather than kicking off at the very start of the summer season, the new routes will run from July 11 through September 4, 2023. Here’s a closer look at the schedule:

Raegan National Airport (DCA) to Albany International Airport (ALB)

  • Depart Washington, D.C. (DCA) 12:35 p.m. — Arrive Albany (ALB) 1:55 p.m.
  • Depart Albany (ALB) 2:55 p.m. — Arrive Washington, D.C. (DCA) 4:20 p.m.

Raegan National Airport (DCA) to Memphis International Airport (MEM)

  • Depart Washington, D.C. (DCA) 5:05 p.m. — Arrive Memphis (MEM) 6:20 p.m.
  • Depart Memphis (MEM) 8:25 a.m. — Arrive Washington, D.C. 11:35 a.m.

The addition of Albany and Memphis brings the total number of routes in Southwest’s network from DCA to 19.

While both routes are already operated by other airlines, Southwest hopes to win passengers over with its low-cost appeal.

Hot Tip:

Despite being a low-cost carrier, Southwest Airlines gives passengers the opportunity to make their flights even cheaper thanks to its Southwest Rewards loyalty program. Better yet, there are more ways than you may think to earn Southwest points quickly.

Southwest operates a fleet entirely made up of variations of the Boeing 737 aircraft, which are all configured with only economy seats.

“With our all-Boeing 737 fleet, Customers enjoy large-jet service on every flight, whether they’re traveling from Washington, D.C., to Albany and Memphis or throughout our expansive network of more than 120 destinations,” continued Watterson.

Final Thoughts

Southwest Airlines is temporarily building out its route network from Washington, D.C. this summer with 2 new services. The routes will no doubt provide much-appreciated low-cost alternatives for those wishing to travel to Albany, Memphis, or Washington D.C. this summer.
