Well, that didn’t last long.

It briefly looked like Chase was shutting down one of the best ways to maximize the up-to-$500 in annual credits for bookings with The Edit on the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and Sapphire Reserve for Business℠.

Fortunately, the opportunity to save up to $500 on a single hotel visit is still alive. Here’s what happened — and how to take advantage.

Chase Quickly Reversed the Change

The Chase Sapphire Reserve card and Chase Sapphire Reserve Business card each offer up to $500 in annual credits for prepaid hotel stays booked through The Edit by Chase Travel. The benefit comes as 2 separate credits of up to $250, and each qualifying reservation must be at least 2 nights.

Bookings through The Edit add some nice benefits during your stay, including:

  • $100 property credit
  • Daily breakfast for 2
  • Room upgrade when available
  • Early check-in and late checkout when available

As it stands, cardholders can use both credits during a single hotel visit by making 2 back-to-back reservations of 2 nights each. But earlier this week, Chase added new language stating:

Back-to-back stays at the same property within 24 hours of checkout are considered a single stay, and only the first stay is eligible for the credit.

Source: Chase website, August 16, 2026

That update caused some disappointment and appeared to put an end to the strategy. But Chase has since reversed course, removing the new language from the benefits page and confirming via a spokesperson that back-to-back stays can still qualify for both credits.

This means eligible cardholders can continue to make 2 consecutive reservations of at least 2 nights each and use 1 $250 credit toward each booking, receiving up to the full $500 during the same hotel visit.

Bottom Line:

In simple terms, Chase briefly said Sapphire Reserve cardholders (both personal and small business) could no longer use both $250 The Edit credits on back-to-back stays at the same hotel, but it quickly removed that language from the benefits page. You can still split a 4-night hotel visit into 2 separate 2-night reservations and receive up to $500 back.

How To Use Both $250 The Edit Credits on the Same Trip

Here’s how to stack both $250 The Edit credits on the same trip.

Find a stay of at least 4 nights, but book it as 2 separate prepaid reservations of at least 2 nights each through The Edit. Each reservation can then trigger one of your $250 credits.

For example, the Loews Atlanta Hotel participates in The Edit, and the 2-night stay shown below costs $697, including taxes and fees. You would book the first 2 nights as one reservation and receive a $250 statement credit, bringing your net cost down to $447.

Next, make a separate reservation for the following 2 nights. Assuming the price is the same, your second $250 credit would also reduce that booking from $697 to $447.

Altogether, you would pay $894 for 4 nights instead of $1,394 — saving the full $500 available through The Edit credits.

Cardholders can save even more on The Edit bookings by stacking The Edit credits with either or both of the following credits:

  • $300 annual travel credit
  • $250 credit for select Chase Travel hotels
    • Valid on prepaid 2-night minimum bookings at IHG Hotels & Resorts, Minor Hotel Group, Montage Hotels & Resorts, Omni Hotels & Resorts, Pan Pacific Hotels & Resorts, Pendry Hotels & Resorts, Virgin Hotels through December 31, 2026.

Final Thoughts

We’re glad Chase is still allowing cardholders to use both $250 The Edit credits on the same trip. By splitting a 4-night hotel stay into 2 separate 2-night reservations, cardholders can save up to $500, making this one of the best ways to maximize the cards’ hotel benefits.
