United is adding the ancient city of Athens to its list of nonstop destinations from its Chicago (ORD) hub, with seasonal service set to begin on May 23, 2024.

“United continues to have the largest and most diverse network across the Atlantic and we’re thrilled to add another exciting destination for customers flying out of Chicago O’Hare to explore with our new summer service to Athens,” said Patrick Quayle, senior vice president of global network planning and alliances at United.

Here’s everything you need to know about the new summer service and how to book it yourself.

United’s New Service From Chicago to Athens

United will operate daily nonstop flights between Chicago and Athens from May 23 through August 12, 2024, according to the following schedule:

  • Depart Chicago (ORD) 4:35 p.m. — Arrive Athens (ATH) 10:50 (+1)
  • Depart Athens (ATH) 12:45 p.m. — Arrive Chicago (ORD) 4:25 p.m.

Athens will become the 14th European destination served nonstop by United from the Windy City.

United will deploy its fleet of Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners on the route. The ultra-modern jets comprise 28 seats in Polaris (business class), 21 Premium Plus (premium economy), and 193 seats in economy, of which 36 have extra legroom.

Thanks to the high demand and low competition, niche nonstop services to leisure destinations often don’t come cheap.

United’s Chicago to Athens service is an example of this, as $1,983 is the lowest you can expect to pay for a round-trip in economy!

Final Thoughts

United is bringing more choice to its Chicago-based flyers this summer with its new nonstop service to Athens.

We hope that United has great success with its new route so that it becomes a regular seasonal service or, better still, year-round.
