United will once again connect Washington, D.C. (IAD) with Amsterdam (AMS).

The nonstop service will return with the start of the airline’s winter season schedule on October 29, 2022.

Here are the details you need to know about United’s upcoming transatlantic route.

Fly Nonstop From D.C. to Amsterdam With United

Passengers in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and the surrounding areas will have a new nonstop service to Amsterdam starting this fall thanks to United.

The route will restart with a daily service, dropping down to at least 4 times per week in January, before building back up to a daily service for the start of the summer season from March 23, 2023.

  • Depart Washington, D.C. (IAD) 6:20 p.m. — Arrive Amsterdam (AMS) 7:05 a.m. (+1)
  • Depart Amsterdam (AMS) 11 a.m. — Arrive Washington, D.C. (IAD) 3:05 p.m.

United’s Boeing 767-400 aircraft will operate the route.

The jet comprises a total of 240 seats: 39 lie-flat Polaris business class seats in a 2-1-2 configuration, 70 2-3-2-configured recliner seats in Economy Plus, and 131 seats in economy — also in a 2-3-2 configuration.

We’re seeing return flights in economy from just $553, or around 60,000 United MileagePlus miles! In Polaris, the cheapest we’re seeing is $2,119 or 120,000 miles at various times throughout the year, though you can also check out our guide on how to fly this route in Polaris using points and miles.

Hot Tip: Curious to know what it’s like to fly United’s Polaris business class on the Boeing 767 across the Atlantic? Upgraded Points’ Victoria M. Walker gives you the low down in her review of a Polaris flight between Newark (EWR) and London (LHR) with United

Washington, D.C. to Amsterdam will join Chicago (ORD), Houston (IAH), Newark (EWR), and San Francisco (SFO) as only the fifth nonstop service from the U.S. to Amsterdam operated by United.

This is because Amsterdam is a hub for SkyTeam member airline KLM which has close ties with U.S.-based SkyTeam member airline Delta. As such, Delta has the monopoly of all the big 3 U.S. carriers on routes from the U.S. to Amsterdam with nonstop services from 10 cities across the country.

However, United will be the only American airline to offer flights between Washington, D.C. and Amsterdam. As it stands, only KLM, the Dutch national flag carrier, operates a daily service on the route.

Final Thoughts

United is restarting its nonstop service between Washington, D.C. and the popular Dutch city of Amsterdam with return fares in economy from just $553!

The route will return for the start of the winter season from October 29, 2022 — just in time for the European Christmas markets.
