After announcing the concept of a theme park designed especially for young families earlier this year, Universal has finally unveiled the name — Universal Kids Resort.

The company broke ground in Frisco, Texas, in November 2023, intending to open in 2026.

Let’s take a look at everything we know so far.

Universal Kids Resort

Universal is focusing on a younger audience with the development of Universal Kids Resort.

This imaginative theme park will feature immersive storytelling and themed lands full of Universal’s most beloved characters.

“Universal Kids Resort will inspire the unbridled creativity of kids through imagination, discovery, and most importantly – play,” said Molly Murphy, President, Universal Creative. “We’re designing the resort so kids and families can feel the thrill of being physically immersed in their most beloved stories and characters.”

Universal’s other resorts are also family-friendly but admittedly have more attractions for older kids and adults — especially when compared to competition like Walt Disney World.

Universal Kids Resort aims to change that.

What To Expect

Universal Kids Resort will be set in a “lush green landscape,” which should hopefully help with the Texas heat in the summer. There will be plenty of family-friendly attractions, interactive shows, character meet-and-greets, and unique merchandise.

Guests can also expect a wide variety of fun food and beverage options that will appeal to even the pickiest eaters. The resort area will also feature a 300-room, themed hotel. And based on the artist’s mockup, it will include pools and a lazy river.

Final Thoughts

As a parent, I am pretty excited about the idea of a theme park dedicated to younger kids — and I’m sure I’m not alone.

Universal has a pretty good track record when it comes to theme parks and hotels, so Universal Kids Resort should prove to be a popular destination.

And, if the pricing is reasonable, it may be enticing enough to dissuade some families from visiting Disney World for at least one family vacation!
