Fans of Virgin Atlantic and its Flying Club loyalty program have an exciting new feature to take advantage of: You can now pool your miles with family members at no cost!

While there are certain restrictions to consider, this move should make it easier to book award travel for your household.

Here’s what you need to know.

Share Points With Family in the Same Household

Good news: If you’re a Virgin Atlantic Flying Club member, you can now pool miles with family into 1 joint household account. Using this feature, you can easily combine points from multiple accounts, making it quicker and simpler for a lead member to redeem rewards for the entire family in the same household.

Fellow U.K.-based carrier British Airways has long allowed its members to pool Avios with up to 6 people in their household. However, Virgin Atlantic announced its members will be able to invite up to 9 people to join their household account, including children under 18 years of age.

The point pooling process requires the head of household to create a household account to pool points with other Flying Club members who live with them.

You can do this by logging in to your Flying Club account and inviting household members to join. After accepting the invitation, the accounts will be connected, and any Virgin Points earned through Flying Club from then on will be immediately transferred to the household account.

There are some important terms and conditions to be aware of:

  • The person who creates the household account is the head of household and is the only person who can redeem points.
  • All household account holders must have the same address.
  • There is no age limit for members of a household.
  • After joining a household account, you must remain a member of the household for at least 12 months.
  • If you have a balance of points before entering the household account, those points stay with you, and only points earned after joining the household account are pooled.
  • The head of household can redeem points for anyone, not only household account holders.

Best of all, Virgin Flying Club Points never expire, so you can combine any of your family’s unused points into a single account and continue to accumulate until you have enough to book award seats or seat upgrades.

And if you find yourself a bit low on Virgin Flying Club Points, there’s no need to worry. Virgin Atlantic partners with all of the major transferable rewards currencies: American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Capital One miles, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou Rewards, Wells Fargo Rewards, and Marriott Bonvoy.

Hot Tip:

Points or miles pooling is the most effective approach for families to book award travel because everyone contributes to a larger pot of travel rewards. In fact, more than 25 different airlines and hotels offer pooling!

Final Thoughts

This is a terrific move by Virgin Atlantic, as it not only provides additional options for customers but also encourages them to invite their family members to join the Flying Club program.

Likewise, the program is well-known for providing incredible award rates for as low as 6,000 points per person from the U.S. to London. Adding the feature of family pooling into a household account will make it even easier to book travel with Virgin Atlantic.
