Viva low-cost fares to Cancun (CUN)!

Mexican carrier Viva Aerobus will launch weekly nonstop flights from Columbus (CMH) in Ohio and Memphis (MEM) in Tennessee to the popular beach vacation destination in time for summer 2025.

Here are all the details you need to know.

Viva Aerobus’s New U.S. Routes to Columbus and Memphis

Since the FAA reawarded Mexico a Category 1 safety rating, Mexico-based carriers, including flag carrier Aeromexico, have opened a number of new routes between Mexico and the U.S.

The latest airline to extend its reach across the border is Monterrey-based Viva Aerobus, which is bringing its total of U.S. destinations to 17 with the addition of nonstop service to Columbus and Memphis from Cancun.

When the service to Memphis starts on May 25, 2025, Viva will be the sole provider of nonstop service to Cancun from the Tennessee city.

Flights will operate just once per week according to the following schedule:

  • Depart Memphis (MEM) 7 a.m. — Arrive Cancun (CUN) 9:45 a.m. (Sundays only)
  • Depart Cancun (CUN) 5:15 p.m. — Arrive Memphis (MEM) 7:55 p.m. (Saturdays only)

Earlier in the year, on February 15, Viva will launch nonstop service from Cancun to Columbus.

Similar to Memphis, the schedule for Columbus consists of a once-weekly flight:

  • Depart Columbus (CMH) 9 a.m. — Arrive Cancun (CUN) 11:35 a.m. (Sundays only)
  • Depart Cancun (CUN) 4:50 p.m. — Arrive Columbus (CMH) 9:20 p.m. (Saturdays only)

Tickets are now available to book directly through the airline’s website.

Even with surprisingly high fares starting at around $397 round-trip, Viva is several hundred dollars cheaper than nonstop options with American or Southwest who also operate the route.

As you’d expect with a low-cost airline, Viva’s restrictive base-level Zero fares don’t even permit passengers to bring carry-on bags onboard. However, it’ll only cost you an extra $11 to upgrade to Viva’s Light fares which include a 22-pound carry-on bag and up to 3 itinerary changes.

Final Thoughts

As one of the most popular beach vacation destinations with U.S.-based travelers, it’s not surprising that Viva Aerobus intends to capitalize on the demand with its 2 new nonstop routes to Cancun.

We’ll see you on the beach!
