If you like to visit awesome, lesser-known cities, then this is news for you.

Canadian carrier WestJet has inaugurated nonstop service from Los Angeles (LAX) to Winnipeg, Manitoba (YWG) — right in the heart of North America.

“With a thriving film and television industry, our Manitoban guests and partners have long awaited this integral connection and will benefit substantially from convenient flights between both cities,” said John Weatherill, Chief Commercial Officer at WestJet.

Here’s what you need to know about the most exciting new service to connect California with Canada.

Los Angeles and Winnipeg, Canada, Now Connected By WestJet

WestJet is giving Californians a new Canadian destination. The charming city of Winnipeg is now just a nonstop flight away from Los Angeles.

The inauguration of the route heralded the first and only service connecting the 2 cities.

“As the only airline providing direct connectivity between Winnipeg and Los Angeles, this route not only supports our efforts to bolster the economic success of the communities we serve but provides a vital link that will stimulate new business, investment, and tourism opportunities,” said Weatherill.

Winnipeg joins Calgary (YYC), Edmonton (YEG), Toronto (YYZ), and Vancouver (YVR) as the 5th nonstop WestJet-operated service from LA.

The service, blocked at around 3.5 hours, operates 3 times weekly on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays with the following schedule.

  • Depart Winnipeg (YWG) 7 a.m. — Arrive Los Angeles (LAX) 8:50 a.m.
  • Depart Los Angeles (LAX) 9:35 a.m. — Arrive Winnipeg (YWG) 3:07 p.m.

The cheapest return economy fare we’re seeing is $243 which is less than the alternative 1-stop services.

Hot Tip: WestJet is also an airline partner of Delta meaning you can use your SkyMiles to fly WestJet from the U.S. to Canada and beyond.

WestJet’s Boeing 737 MAX aircraft that operates the route between LA and Winnipeg boasts a very comfortable first-class cabin with 12 seats in a 2-2 configuration.

Not only that, but WestJet’s in-flight meals in first are worth writing home about.

Final Thoughts

Californians now have a new nonstop Canadian destination to visit for a weekend break with a difference.

WestJet’s new nonstop service between Los Angeles and Winnipeg is an exciting new addition to the route map of North America as it connects 2 cities that previously required a layover.

Be sure to pack your SPF in the summer and thermals for the winter, and you’re good to enjoy The Peg.
