WestJet will continue to grow its transborder route network next spring.

The Canadian airline will add nonstop service to Minneapolis (MSP) from Calgary (YYC) — the airline’s main hub and base airport.

Here are the details about WestJet’s latest U.S. route addition which will start on April 27, 2025.

WestJet Connecting Minneapolis With Calgary

The latest update to WestJet’s network comes by way of a new service between Calgary and Minneapolis.

This is the airline’s second new route to Minneapolis from Canada to be announced this year, joining several new services that were introduced between the U.S. and Canada already in 2024.

The new service will operate daily with the following schedule:

  • Depart Calgary (YYC) 10:30 a.m. — Arrive Minneapolis (MSP) 2:12 p.m.
  • Depart Minneapolis (MSP) 3:15 p.m. — Arrive Calgary (YYC) 5:12 p.m.

Tickets for WestJet’s new route are available to book now on WestJet’s website. However, Delta also operates the route, and the difference in economy fares is significant.

Round-trip economy tickets with WestJet start at $257, while the cheapest one with Delta starts at around $537. This could make for an interesting fare war between the 2 airlines, which are actually partner airlines.

Thanks to the partnership, Delta loyalists would receive their elite status benefits when flying WestJet so it would make sense to choose WestJet’s fares for half the price of Delta’s for almost the same experience.

While WestJet’s lowest fares don’t include a checked bag, passengers are entitled to 1 personal item and 1 standard carry-on bag for free. The most likely outcome, which would be great for cash-paying passengers, is for Delta to reduce its economy fares to match WestJet’s. This would be a great example to show the positive impact that competition has on airline fares.

Hot Tip:

When using cash rather than points to book a flight, we recommend using a credit card that will reward you for your spending, such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card which would earn 5x points on airfare when booked through Chase TravelSM.

Final Thoughts

WestJet’s new route between Minneapolis will mean cheaper fares for those traveling between the 2 cities from April 2025. We’ll be sure to keep you in the loop with any further updates to WestJet’s U.S. route network.
