The day we’ve all been nervously anticipating is here. The new World of Hyatt award chart is officially here, coupled with the chain’s annual category realignment.

This year, not only did more than 100 properties shift categories (with the vast majority moving to a higher category), but the new 5-tier award chart has also gone live, replacing the previous 3-tier chart.

We’re going to have a much more complete look at the ins and outs of the new award chart and what it means for redemptions in the coming days. For now, let’s take a look at some of the high-level impressions we have now that the new World of Hyatt award chart is here.

World of Hyatt’s First Major Changes in Years

Today’s changes to the World of Hyatt award chart are the first significant updates to the program’s structure since 2021, when it introduced the former off-peak, standard, and peak pricing.

Today’s changes expand pricing tiers to 5: Lowest, Low, Moderate, Upper, and Top. Whereas the previous award chart maxed out at 45,000 points for a peak night at a top-tier Category 8 property, the new chart maxes out at a whopping 75,000 points for a top night at a Category 8 hotel, an increase of 67%.

The new 5-tier pricing system is coupled this year with a category realignment that saw 112 properties shifting up in category and just 24 down, with numerous properties worldwide newly becoming ineligible for a Category 1-4 free night certificate by moving to Category 5.

How Do Award Prices Look?

We can’t make ironclad conclusions about pricing until we do an in-depth analysis (Don’t worry, that’s coming soon!), but spot checks of specific properties are revealing patterns.

First, as Hyatt said when it initially announced the award chart changes, it appears hotels are using Upper and Top pricing somewhat sparingly, at least for nowsomething we were worried about. The chain says it expects to grow into its new award chart, which means we’ll certainly see more nights priced at Upper and Top tiers in the years to come, but it may not be as drastic as it could have been.

Take, for example, the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa in Hawaii. It’s a very popular Category 6 property, meaning award nights now range from 20,000 points (Lowest) to 40,000 points (Top) per night. Between today and the end of May 2027, there are fewer than 25 nights priced at the Upper (35,000 points) or Top (40,000) rates. The majority of nights available for award bookings are currently priced at Moderate or below levels.

The same general pattern repeated across a handful of other hotels we searched, including the Thompson New York Central Park and the Park Hyatt Chicago. However, since these changes occurred at the property level, be aware that pricing at the specific property you’re looking at may have changed more drastically.

Check Any Existing Reservations for Irregularities or New Pricing

One thing you’ll want to do in the short term is check any existing World of Hyatt reservations. The new pricing levels went into effect as of 8 a.m. CT this morning, May 20. Anything booked before then should follow previous pricing levels.

We’ve seen reports of a few irregularities surrounding existing reservations, including reservations booked before this morning’s cutoff charging the new rates, which shouldn’t be happening. An Upgraded Points staffer had booked a reservation before the changeover time that should have been priced at 6,500 points, but she was charged 7,500 points.

Hyatt should and will correct situations like these, so if you notice issues in existing reservations, reach out to Hyatt directly.

However, there’s another reason to check your existing reservations: Rates may have decreased since the changeover. Run a new award search that exactly matches your existing reservation and compare the total number of points required for the stay. If you find it’s gone down, cancel the existing reservation and immediately rebook at the lower rates to save yourself some points.

Final Thoughts

As things stand right now, the World of Hyatt award chart changes don’t signal the end of the program’s overall utility. However, we will learn more as we dig into the numbers for a much larger swathe of properties. And we know that Hyatt isn’t fully leaning into its highest pricing levels yet, so be prepared for bigger price increases at top properties in the coming months and years.

Right now, the next steps are to account for your existing reservations by checking for any pricing irregularities and checking if your upcoming stays got cheaper. If so, you’ll want to rebook at the new, lower prices.
