The Bilbao Airport (BIO) in northern Spain has 2 lounges, but with my Priority Pass membership, I had access to only 1: the Sala VIP Nervión.

Normally, when an airport has just a single Priority Pass lounge, I don’t expect much. However, the Sala VIP Nervión wasn’t bad and offered a spacious layout, comfortable seating, and a decent buffet. Drink options were surprisingly numerous.

Finding the lounge was a bit tricky, and I made a time-consuming error when leaving the lounge for my gate.

Here’s what I found during a 2-hour visit to the lounge in early March 2026.

How To Access Sala VIP Nervión at the Bilbao Airport

The Sala VIP Nervión is accessible for those with a Priority Pass membership, which is how I got in. The lounge also accepts visitors from other membership programs.

At the time of my visit, the Priority Pass website showed no lounges available at Bilbao Airport. However, the Amex lounge finder website showed that the Sala VIP Nervión was available for Priority Pass members, and the lounge also shows in the Priority Pass mobile app.

I get my annual Priority Pass membership as a built-in benefit of my Platinum Card® from American Express (enrollment required). While it’s possible to purchase a Priority Pass membership, multiple credit cards offer Priority Pass membership as a cardholder perk.

Sala VIP Nervión is open from 5:30 a.m. to 10:15 p.m. most days of the week, though it opens at 5 a.m. on Sundays and closes at 8:30 p.m. on Saturdays.

Location of Sala VIP Nervión

After passing security and leaving the airport’s duty-free area, I saw a sign for the lounges. Both had Sala VIP in the name, with Urdaibai serving as the elite lounge for premium passengers of multiple airlines. Nervión, however, welcomed those with various lounge memberships. It was on the lower (second) floor, a level down from the duty-free shop. This was the level with departure gates.

To go down to the correct floor, you can follow the ramp behind the directional sign. If you turn right (staying on the same floor as duty-free), you’ll find a green door and need to take the stairs or elevator down a level to find the Nervión lounge.

Once on the lower level, signs led to the lounge’s entrance, and a large VIP placard outside made it easy to spot.

Hot Tip:

When leaving, unless your gate is immediately next to the lounge, you should return to the upper level. Attempting to walk toward my gate on the lower level meant running into a dead end, and I had to backtrack to find a way to return to the upper level and keep walking toward my gate at the end of the concourse.

What Does Bilbao’s Sala VIP Nervión Offer?

Within the lounge, there are multiple seating types. Turning right after check-in, you’ll find tables and chairs in a cafeteria setup. The restrooms are past this seating area.

Turning left from reception, there are high-back chairs along the windows, groups of sofas and armchairs around coffee tables, and high-top tables that double as work stations.

The lounge has a small buffet featuring mostly local fare, including seafood, rice, and potatoes. The buffet also had cold cuts, snacks, light bites, pastries, and more.

Large coolers near the buffet had various sodas, bottled water, wine, beers, and nonalcoholic beers. Liquor and coffee were also available.

Final Thoughts

I went to the Sala VIP Nervión lounge in Bilbao with low expectations, not thinking this lounge at a regional airport would offer much. Instead, I enjoyed my visit.

The buffet offered a variety of dining options, and the drink selection was impressive. Seating was comfortable and varied, and the lounge didn’t feel cramped. This lounge is worth a visit.

The lounge is on the second floor of the main terminal, past the security checkpoint in the departures area near the boarding gates.
