The author stayed as an invited guest of Four Seasons Casa Medina. All opinions are the author’s own, and Four Seasons Casa Medina had no input in any part of this review.

I set out in early 2025 to uncover the most luxurious hotel stays in South America. Having tried and tested some incredible hotels over the past 6 years, I’d never stayed at a Four Seasons hotel. The continent has only 5 Four Seasons properties, 2 of which are in Bogotá. Something about the Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá stood out to me.

Before I knew it, I had a stay confirmed, and I was quite literally counting down the days for my first-ever Four Seasons stay.

The Four Seasons brand evokes the refined, elegant, and understated luxury that I look for in hotels, so I couldn’t wait to experience it for myself.

Casa Medina Is the Perfect Spot for a Cozy Getaway

Colombia’s tropical status can be deceiving when you arrive in Bogotá, the country’s high-altitude capital.

With an altitude of 8,660 feet, the city hovers around a very mild 64 degrees Fahrenheit all year. The 3 times I’ve visited over the past 5 years, the weather was persistently grey and rainy. I’ve come to nickname Bogotá “Fall City.”

The exterior and interior of Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá reflect that autumnal feel. With the brick exterior and wooden features throughout, you could confuse it for a destination in Europe.

Welcome to the Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá.

During my stay, the temperature dropped to a cool 46 F overnight. Having spent the past few months in tropical South America, the hotel was the ideal place to hunker down and escape the gloom outside.

It’s almost as if Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá was designed with this season in mind, as the whole vibe feels more like a cozy chalet in the mountains.

Luxurious Rooms Have a Classic, Cozy Charm

Opening the door to my first-ever room at a Four Seasons hotel is a moment I’ll never forget.

Welcome to an Executive Suite at Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá.

Stepping into my Executive Suite at Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá was like walking into a stately home in the British countryside. It was a slightly odd sensation, given I was so far away from the U.K. in a Latin American city.

Rustic charm, but make it luxury.

The full name of the room category is “Executive Suite With Fireplace,” for good reason. This was the first time in my life that I’d had a fireplace in a hotel room.

It was sheer bliss to spend the evening cozied up with a book by the roaring log fire.

The sumptuously plump selection of pillows complemented the fireplace, elevating the coziness level to 100.

I was quite happy the weather was so bleak outside, so I could spend as much time as possible in this room.

I didn’t unpack, but this walk-in closet would have been more than enough space for me.

The Hotel’s Boulevardier Speakeasy Is a Destination

I’m not really a drinker these days, but I couldn’t resist popping into the Boulevardier Speakeasy. It’s open to non-guests, too, and is a hidden gem in Bogotá.

Welcome to Boulevardier.

To enter as a guest of the hotel, walk through the main restaurant, head outside, and you’ll find a stairway camouflaged by lush greenery.

Boulevardier prides itself on its whiskey collection, which includes several specialty labels, such as Mars Iwai, Kilchoman Machir, and Jura 12, among others. The skilled bar staff can whip up signature cocktails and other concoctions.

I arrived early evening while the bar was still quiet. A couple was on a romantic date, while a group of friends downstairs sipped whiskey. As the evening progressed, the space filled up, and the atmosphere was electric.

Let this be your date night inspiration.

Even if you’re not staying at the Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá, I highly recommend paying a visit to Boulevardier. I know I’ll be back next time I’m in town.

Breakfast Is Decadent

Breakfast at Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá is worth setting an alarm clock for. The hotel’s classic elegance shone through once again in the main dining room.

The buffet area is far from the standard setup that you’d expect.

This is no ordinary breakfast buffet.

Stunning displays of cut fresh fruit were used as decorative features between dishes.

It wasn’t just the fruit: Even the cold cuts were folded and displayed artistically.

I was impressed by the wide variety of both cold and hot options.

It couldn’t possibly be a 5-star establishment without an à la carte menu, which I perused from my table tucked away in the corner.

Even though it wasn’t on the menu, I was able to order my staple egg-white omelette.

My breakfast protein regime remains the same wherever I may be.

I wanted to make the most of my last morning at the hotel, and I didn’t want to leave the sumptuous pillows until I had to check out. Breakfast in bed made that possible.

I ordered a plate of fresh fruit, a classic egg white omelet with a side of potatoes, and a pot of coffee. It was delivered within 20 minutes and was of the same excellent quality as I had enjoyed at the buffet the morning before.

Service Is Impeccable

My expectations were highest regarding service. I’ve stayed in plenty of 5-star hotels before, but I had a feeling that Four Seasons would take it to the next level. I wasn’t wrong.

The rainy night that I decided to stay in, I mentioned it to reception and was asked if I wanted them to light a fire. Up to this point, I’d assumed the fireplace was for decoration. Within minutes, a member of the team arrived at my door with a trolley of logs to start a fire for me.

If only I’d have thought about this the first night.

I love a turndown service, as it’s a great way to see what small, thoughtful gestures a hotel might come up with to differentiate itself from the rest. At Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá, along with the standard bottle of water you’d expect, I came back to my room one evening to find a postcard.

On the front was a picture of a typical Colombian dish, and on the back was the recipe. There was also a Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá bookmark left for me on the first night. For me, it’s small things like this that leave a lasting impression for all the right reasons.

I’m looking forward to making my first Calentao.

From the check-in team and wait staff to the bellman whisking my case into the hotel, it was abundantly clear that each member of the team had been hand-picked to work at such a prestigious hotel brand.

It’s One of the Best Value Four Seasons Hotels

The level of luxury synonymous with the Four Seasons brand usually comes with a price tag to match. However, a stay at Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá doesn’t have to break the bank.

Looking ahead to next fall, you’d pay $590 per night for a 2-night stay in October 2026. Rates are lower than usual thanks to the Bogotá Getaway offer of 20% off when booking directly with Four Seasons.

And for a stay in the same room category as I enjoyed, you’d pay $971.

To make your stay at Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá even better (yes, it’s possible), you can book via Amex’s Fine Hotels + Resorts platform.

By doing so, you’ll enjoy the following fabulous benefits:

  • Room upgrade on arrival (if available)
  • Early 12 p.m. check-in (if available)
  • $150 spa credit to use during your stay
  • Daily breakfast for 2
  • Guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout

The benefits aren’t a gimmick, either. During a recent stay in Rio, I discovered that I received over $1,200 in perks by booking through Fine Hotels + Resorts.

To be eligible to use the Fine Hotels + Resorts platform, you’ll need to have one of the following cards in your wallet: the Platinum Card® from American Express, The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, or Centurion® Card from American Express.

Hot Tip:

If you don’t have an eligible Amex card, consider booking through the Four Seasons Preferred Partner program. You can reach out to UP’s very own Leigh Rowan at leighrowan@upgradedpoints.com, who can help book your upcoming Four Seasons trip and get access to extra perks (room upgrades, credits, complimentary daily breakfast, and more).

Final Thoughts

I was delighted to have chosen the Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá as my first Four Seasons hotel experience.

It was a great insight into the brand. The Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá is a fine example of a hotel that successfully incorporates local culture and energy while remaining true to its core image and values.

If Colombia, Bogotá, or a stay at a Four Seasons hotel is on your bucket list, then look no further than Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá to complete the hat trick.
