Those looking for a great Hyatt stay in Barcelona, Spain, may be drawn to the Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower. That’s especially true when you consider its Category 4 designation, meaning rates with points or free night awards make this an attractive booking.

And the hotel definitely has great elements, including massive closets, a hip lobby, and a great breakfast. That said, its location isn’t ideal for everyone, which may be its main downside.

Here are 6 things you should know about this property, where my wife and I spent a night in late August 2025.

1. It’s Not in the Main Tourist Areas

The Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower is in the L’Hospitalet de Llobregat area just west of Barcelona — so technically outside Barcelona, between the city proper and the airport.

While the hotel is convenient to a nearby hospital, several train and metro stations, and multiple parks, staying here means a 25-minute drive or 30-minute metro ride to many of Barcelona’s most popular tourist attractions.

The hotel’s entrance is set back from the main road, so it gives off country club vibes with its private setting. That’s furthered by the bellhops and valet staff who quickly arrive at the side of your vehicle to open the door and help with luggage — even if you’re arriving by taxi and won’t be parking a vehicle with them.

Those looking for something closer to the action might like the Category 5 Grand Hyatt Barcelona. That property is also very close to the Camp Nou stadium, where FC Barcelona plays its home games.

2. It Can Be a Great Use of a Hyatt Category 1-4 Free Night

The Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower is a Category 4 property in the World of Hyatt program. That means you pay 12,000 points per night for a standard room during off-peak dates, 15,000 during standard dates, and 18,000 points per night during peak periods.

You can find rooms starting at $157 per night — around $175 after taxes — during off-peak times, and redeeming your points against those rates might not be the best value.

However, rates can climb closer to $550 per night after tax during popular periods. Redeeming 15,000 or 18,000 points per night at this time can mean redeeming Hyatt points at a value of 3.1 to 3.7 cents per point — well above our average valuation of Hyatt points at 1.5 cents apiece.

Regardless of the peak and off-peak calendar, you can book a night at the Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower using a category 1-4 free night award any time there’s a standard room available. Redeeming on nights when the cash rate is $225 or higher means you’d get above-average value from your redemption.

Hot Tip:

There are several ways to earn a Hyatt category 1-4 free night award. You can earn them with Hyatt’s Milestone Rewards, by staying at different Hyatt brands in the Brand Explorer benefit, and by holding The World of Hyatt Credit Card.

3. The Lobby Is Much More Than a Check-In Area

When we arrived at the hotel’s entrance, the red bars gave off Tinkertoy vibes.

However, stepping inside, I saw that the lobby was something entirely different. This fun hangout space gave off elements of New Year’s Eve parties, social clubs, and a Hawaiian resort. Immediately to the right of the entrance, there were multiple sofas and chairs that provided the most popular seating area in the lobby.

Due to floor-to-ceiling windows and a glass dome overhead, the lobby was bathed in natural light throughout the day, and there were live plants breaking up the space in a more attractive way than partitions or walls could provide.

Natural light galore.

There was a water station in the lobby, surrounded by tons of plants, with 2 types of infused water available for guests.

The reception desk was at the far end of the lobby, and the black marble counters were an interesting contrast to the brightness throughout the lobby.

Staff members were friendly and efficient, and we didn’t wait long to check in, despite finding a line when we arrived.

While waiting our turn, we poked around the lobby a bit and found ample seating in various styles, including high-top chairs at tall tables and different styles of cushioned chairs circling around low tables.

There was also a small bar in the lobby with a handful of barstools. While some people had their drinks at the bar, most took them to the sofas near the entrance to get comfortable.

The lobby also had a small market in the corner, near the escalators down to the lower level and parking garage.

4. Suites Are Spacious

The basic room at the Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower offers a small sitting area near the window and an open layout between the bathroom (near the entry) and the bedroom. However, we received an upgrade to a Regency Executive Suite Twin City View, which uses 2 beds pushed together to create a king.

The suite had a separate living room area with a pair of chairs and a sofa, along with a desk, TV, and closet.

As the name implied, the views faced the city. We didn’t find them to be anything special.

The view was meh.

The closet — that’s where the room really impressed. The closet linking the bedroom to the bathroom was massive.

Packed a lot? Not a problem here.

Along with multiple drawers and shelves, the closet had several spaces for hanging clothes, including wooden hangers. It also had an iron, a laundry bag, and other accessories.

The bathroom also had a walk-in shower with rainfall and handheld showerheads.

There was also a soaking tub with jets.

The bathroom also had dual sinks, and the toilet was in its own space with a door for privacy.

5. Amenities Are Modest

While the lobby and suite were impressive, the amenities felt very modest at the Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower.

Fitness Center

The hotel had a 24-hour-a-day gym that was complimentary. However, guests under 18 couldn’t use it.

Elevators and Hallways

The elevators were filled with light during daytime hours thanks to windows along the back wall.

The look and feel of the lobby, elevators, and elevator waiting room contrasted starkly with the hallway, though. This area felt much darker, given that the walls were a dark, solid wood without artwork to break things up.

Parking

The hotel offers self-parking in an underground structure, available for €25 per day (roughly $29). Both EV charging stations and car wash services are available.

Pet Friendly

The hotel allows guests to stay with their pets for a €20 nightly fee (roughly $24). There’s a limit of 2 pets per room with a combined weight of 88 pounds, and the only animals permitted are dogs and cats.

Pool

The hotel has an outdoor pool with several lounge chairs and shade umbrellas. Towels are readily available nearby.

Revolving Restaurant

While I would normally consider a rotating restaurant in a glass dome a great feature, the hotel’s location keeps it in the modest category. Sitting atop the hotel’s tower, this glass dome houses a small rotating restaurant with views over the surrounding neighborhood.

If the hotel were closer to the city center or the airport, the views would be much more exciting than just recognizing sights in the distance.

6. The Breakfast Buffet Has Great Food

During our stay, the breakfast buffet had an impressive spread — as it should have, as guests paid $28 plus tax for it. The buffet held hot dishes like scrambled eggs, sausages, and potatoes, as well as fruits, cold cuts, and salads.

The buffet had numerous options for everyone, though, and that was its best feature. There was a separate section with gluten-free items and clearly labeled vegan dishes throughout, including vegan cheese slices and croissants. That’s not common to find.

Hot Tip:

Those staying in suites and club access rooms also have access to the hotel’s lounge, where breakfast is available at no charge for these guests. Globalist members, the top tier of Hyatt’s elite status ranks, have complimentary breakfast each morning and can eat in either the restaurant or the lounge.

Final Thoughts

The Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower has strengths and weaknesses. The suites — and their closets — are very spacious, and the lobby is a great spot to hang out to avoid feeling stuck in your room.

The hotel’s amenities are decent but not notable, and the location isn’t ideal for everyone. Those looking to stay close to the airport or get a deal by staying farther from the city center may like it. Those who want to stay close to the action may find the location inconvenient for going out and coming back every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower from the airport and city center?

The Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower is in the Bellvitge neighborhood of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat within Barcelona. It’s very close to Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) — about a 9-minute drive. To reach central Barcelona, public transportation or a taxi will get you there in maybe 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic. If your priority is being centrally located, this hotel isn’t ideal. It offers good amenities and modern architecture but isn’t in the heart of the typical tourist zones.

What amenities does the Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower provide?

You’ll find a lot of modern conveniences. The Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower has 2 restaurants, a bar and lounge, a seasonal outdoor pool, free Wi-Fi in all rooms, a gym, and room service. There’s also a large meeting center (roughly 54,000 square feet) for business or events. For guests with pets, the hotel allows dogs and cats (up to a limit), though there’s an extra charge.

What are the room features of the Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower?

There are 280 rooms in total. The rooms are modern and soundproof, and many have city or partial city views, depending on which side and level you’re on. The building has 29 floors. One of the standout features is the glass dome at the top, which is home to a revolving restaurant with panoramic perspectives of the Barcelona area.

What is the pet policy at Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower?

The hotel allows dogs and cats up to a combined weight of roughly 88 pounds, and there’s a nightly fee of €20 (roughly $24) per pet.

What is special about the Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower?

The hotel originally opened in 2006 as the Hesperia Tower, though it underwent a major renovation to become the Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower in 2020. This 29-floor building was the tallest structure in its neighborhood when it opened, with the glass dome and accompanying restaurant towering over much of the L’Hospitalet de Llobregat neighborhood to this day.
