The author stayed as a guest of Tambo del Inka. All opinions are the author’s own, and neither Tambo del Inka nor Marriott Bonvoy had any input in any part of this review.

The Valle Sagrado, or Sacred Valley, is in Peru’s Cusco region on the route to Machu Picchu. Lodging in the valley ranges from ultrabudget to ultraluxury.

Tambo del Inka, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Valle Sagrado, from Marriott Bonvoy, sits at the upper end of that scale, and the 2 nights I spent there in late July 2026 were incredible.

From the vibes and the staff to the delicious food using organic produce from the on-site garden, this is a hotel I’d easily return to — and one I’d recommend to anyone seeking an elevated stay in Peru.

Let me show you what made it so special.

Booking Tambo del Inka

The rate at Tambo del Inka hovers around $546 per night on many nights throughout the year, with the highest rates on weekends in late November and late December. Award rates start at a low of 56,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night, are cheapest from November to March, and are most expensive around holidays.

Given that you can top off Marriott free night awards with up to 25,000 points, that means 35,000-point awards from cards like the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card and 50,000-point awards from cards like the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy® American Express® Card can be used to book a night here, adding on extra points as needed.

Tambo del Inka Location

The Tambo del Inka sits in Urubamba in Peru’s Sacred Valley, northwest of the Cusco (CUZ) airport, which has frequent flights to Lima. It’s on the route between Cusco and Machu Picchu.

Driving from Cusco to Urubamba takes about 90 minutes, and trains from Urubamba to Machu Picchu take about 2 1/2 hours — departing from the hotel’s private railway station.

What I Loved About Tambo del Inka

My Deluxe Room

Standard rooms at Tambo del Inka are the Deluxe rooms with either a king bed or 2 queen beds. Design elements in my room leaned into local patterns and neutral tones.

Inside my room.

Along with a comfortable king bed and multiple pillow options, I had a pair of nightstands, lamps, and reading lights. There was a television across from the bed.

The far side of the room had sliding doors and views of the mountains beyond a small sitting area. There was a sofa, a pair of chairs, and a desk with a chair. The desk area also held coffee supplies and the minibar.

A sliding door in the middle of the room led to a large bathroom, featuring dual sinks and a stool at the backlit vanity. To my right, a glass-enclosed wet area had both a shower and a tub. To the left of the sinks, I found the toilet in another sectioned-off area.

The walk-in closet was closest to the room’s entrance and offered ample hanging space, shelves, robes, slippers, a safe, and a luggage rack. I thought the light around the mirror was a nice touch.

Mountain Retreat Vibes

The hotel felt like a ski-in, ski-out lodge in the Rockies, minus the snow.

From the wooden beams and vaulted ceilings to the surrounding mountains, this felt like past snowboarding trips without the white stuff. There was even a giant fireplace in the lobby.

The way the setting was woven into the hotel felt intentional, including extensive use of natural materials such as wood and stone rather than drywall everywhere.

Given the altitude (9,416 feet or 2,870 meters), teas were available near reception intended to help with altitude effects.

The Boulevard

New as of July 2026, the Boulevard is a shopping and dining area at the edge of the property. Along with locally made clothes, a train ticket office, and a game room, there’s also a coffee shop.

La Cerveceria is a restaurant in the Boulevard, offering both indoor and outdoor seating. Along with beer (“cerveza”), there are tacos, pizzas, burgers, and shareables. It’s open from 2 p.m. on weekdays and from 1 p.m. on weekends; the restaurant closes nightly at 10 p.m.

The last door on the right leads to Ama, a social project-meets-dining experience that employs and feeds disadvantaged locals. Ama also offers tasting experiences highlighting local crops, handmade breads, chocolate, and more.

Walking from the main building to the Boulevard took 7 to 10 minutes, but a golf cart was also available upon request from the front desk.

Inside the lobby, there were also local handicrafts for sale, such as blankets, sweaters, and hats.

Wellness Offerings

One level below the lobby, the Kallpa Spa had complimentary and paid offerings. The gym, indoor-outdoor pool, hot tub, a small sauna, and some reclining chairs were available at no cost. The hot tub and sauna area were small and filled up quickly with just a few guests.

The spa also offers hair and nail services and a paid thermal circuit option, which includes a cold plunge, steam room, showers, a larger sauna, and additional treatment rooms.

Farm-to-Table Dining

Tambo del Inka has an on-site garden that provides fresh fruits and vegetables for the hotel’s restaurants. It’s possible to dine at the garden restaurant as part of the hotel’s Epicurean experiences, including the option to pick your own produce for the meal.

Guests can take tours of the garden, which felt worlds away from the bustling city on the other side of the walls.

The beer garden is another outdoor dining option, available from 1 to 4 p.m. on weekends or by arrangement through the Epicurean program. Meals here include local cuisine with a strong garden influence, along with grilled meats and local beers.

Hawa Restaurant is the hotel’s main restaurant, available on the lower level of the main building. It offered 3 meals a day: breakfast from 5:30 to 10 a.m., lunch from 12:30 to 3 p.m., and dinner from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

I had breakfast at Hawa Restaurant each morning, and the buffet featured numerous options, like eggs, pastries, fruits, juices, and rotating hot dishes. It was also possible to request made-to-order eggs and espresso drinks from the staff.

Dinner at Hawa Restaurant was also a treat, featuring innovative dishes that relied on organic ingredients from the garden. The avocado-chocolate mousse in the shape of an avocado was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had.

Off the lobby, Kiri Bar had light bites and a full range of drinks. It was open from noon to 11 p.m. daily.

Hot Tip:

Daily breakfast at Hawa Restaurant isn’t automatically included for all guests. Marriott’s elite breakfast benefit, though, allows Platinum Elite members (and higher) to choose daily breakfast for 2 people as a welcome gift option.

Friendly Staff

Staff members were friendly throughout my 2-night stay. From a hearty welcome to genuine smiles, staff members seemed to understand that this is a bucket-list trip for many guests.

Looking up the drive to the hotel.

Waitstaff were attentive at the restaurants and quick to whip up a latte or recommend a dessert. Staff who saw guests looking around asked if they could help them locate something. Employees at Ama and the coffee shop were especially friendly, and the staff had a genuine “Can I help you?” attitude.

Final Thoughts

I didn’t want to leave Tambo del Inka. The 2 nights I spent at the property were memorable for all the right reasons.

I loved the hotel’s mountain retreat vibe, and my room was very comfortable. Staff members did a great job of elevating my stay wherever possible. The on-site garden provided fresh produce, making every meal delicious, and the new Boulevard area offered additional ways to spend my time.

This is a hotel definitely worthy of a visit.
