Getting a new credit card to earn a valuable welcome bonus offer can be exciting. You may already be dreaming of where you can travel with the points or miles from the welcome bonus offer attached to your new card.

But how can you be sure you earn the bonus? Aside from your own spreadsheet or calling the bank, there’s got to be a better way.

Luckily, there’s a simple online tool to track your new Citi credit card’s welcome bonus offer. It shows you the deadline, what you’ll earn, and how much you still have to spend to unlock the offer.

Here’s how it works.

Tracking Your Citi Credit Card Welcome Bonus Offer

After you receive your new card and activate it, your Citi account portal shows the recommended next steps. These include things like setting up automatic payments and enrolling in notifications about your account. You should also see New Cardmember Bonus Tracker on this list.

Choosing this will take you to a bonus tracker page that has all the information you need. This includes details about your card’s bonus, such as the offer details (what you’ll earn in points, miles, or cash-back), the spending required to earn it, and the deadline. Make sure to note these details if you didn’t take a screenshot of them during the application process.

For the American Airlines co-branded card in this example, you’ll see a small “start spending” message, and the airplane is sitting at $0. Once spending started on this new card, the amount left to spend was updated automatically.

After the first purchase of $132.99, the $5,000 spending target on this particular card was updated automatically to say that the bonus could be earned with $4,867.01 of additional spending by the deadline.

The plane also moves forward with spending, and the “left to spend” amount updates with additional purchases. Note that this amount only updates once purchases post to your account. Pending transactions don’t alter the numbers.

Moreover, if you return or cancel any purchases along the way, these won’t count toward the minimum spending requirement to earn the welcome bonus offer. Those should reflect automatically on this page.

After activating your new card, you might also receive an email from Citi reminding you about your welcome offer and providing a link to the New Cardmember Bonus Tracker.

Hot Tip:

We highly recommend that you take screenshots of every page when applying for a credit card with a welcome offer. That way, you know what bonus you applied for, the spending requirement to earn it, and the date you applied. This can help you ensure you meet the requirements for the bonus and provide evidence if there are any discrepancies with the card issuer.

Finding Citi’s Bonus Tracker in the Mobile App

You also can find this information in Citi’s mobile app, though it may not be as obvious. The account setup options may not show the bonus tracker. However, clicking on Edit Tasks can help resolve this.

After removing 1 of the options in the list above (adding the card to Apple Wallet) and saving, the list now includes the New Cardmember Bonus Tracker. Clicking on this shows the tracker with the features discussed above.

Final Thoughts

You should always, always strive to meet the terms of the welcome bonus offer on a new credit card. The points, miles, or cash-back earned along the way can be incredibly valuable.

In order to earn the welcome bonus offer, you likely need to meet a minimum spending requirement, and that has a deadline. Luckily, tracking your credit card welcome offer with Citi is easy — whether you’re using the mobile app or the website. The New Cardmember Bonus Tracker shows what bonus you’re working on, the spending requirement, the deadline, and how much you still need to spend to earn the bonus.

The information regarding the CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® Mastercard® was independently collected by Upgraded Points and not provided nor reviewed by the issuer.
