The growing popularity of Airbnb has opened up a new set of possibilities for those bitten by the travel bug, and people are taking advantage.

Airbnb’s arrangement benefits both the traveler and the host: tourists have more options for places to stay at competitive rates, and hosts have the option of offsetting their rent or mortgage by renting out a room.

This has lead to a huge influx of Airbnb users – and some of them like to travel in style.

While Airbnb has been traditionally looked at as a cost-effective alternative to hotels, there are some options designed to appeal to a more affluent crowd. This piqued our team’s interest, and we decided to investigate.

We wanted to know: what is the most expensive Airbnb listing in each state, and what would a 3-day weekend cost you to stay there?

Most Expensive Airbnb Listings in Every State

To find out, we selected a weekend in June and searched for the most expensive Airbnb rental available in each state for a 3-day, 2-night stay.

Then we filtered through the results by manually identifying the priciest option for each site, and this is what we found.

The Most Expensive Airbnb In Each US State

After looking into the most expensive option by state, we also determined the cost per guest and cost per room.

Just for curiosity, we also found how many months of average rent you could pay in that city with the cost of a 2-night stay by examining the average monthly rent in each respective location.

Where Is the Most Expensive Airbnb Stay?

Some of the results we found might surprise you! New York, for instance, wasn’t even close to the most expensive option. Neither were Washington, D.C. or Massachusetts — home of Cape Cod, Nantucket, and Martha’s Vineyard.

However, locations such as Plymouth, VT, Cambridge, MD, and Hamilton, IL had quite luxurious and expensive options for Airbnb users.

The luxury Airbnb options in many of these areas dwarfed the average local rent! In some cases, with the cost of a single weekend in the most expensive Airbnb, you could pay months or even years of rent in the same area.

A couple standout examples of this include Hamilton, IL, Cambridge, MD, Farmington, MO, and Summersville, WV.

The Highs and The Lows of The Most Expensive Airbnbs

Farmington, MO boasts the most expensive Airbnb option in the United States for our selected weekend, topping the list at a whopping $24,000 for a 2-night stay.

Meanwhile, New Jersey had the highest cost per guest and cost per room according to our research.

North Dakota, on the other hand, had the lowest-priced option for their most expensive Airbnb, at only $1,798 for a 2-night excursion. North Dakota also had the lowest cost per guest at $56, and Iowa had the lowest cost per room at only $150.

Hot Tip: If you decide to book one of these expensive Airbnb rentals, be sure to use a great credit card that will help you earn a maximum number of points!

What Do You Get at the Most Expensive Airbnb Rentals?

Luxury Airbnb Types

While the majority of these luxury lodgings give travelers the use of a full house, in some cases access was a bit more limited. In 2 cases, the exorbitant nightly fee would only give the visitor access to a single private room!

While the second most popular type of luxury Airbnb was a villa, followed by townhouses, in several cases the quarters were restricted to apartments, lofts, or cottages. This seems a high price to pay for such limited space.

There were a few more spacious options, however, including yachts, farms, a lodge, and even an entire castle!

Luxury Airbnb Averages

Overall, the high-class Airbnb experience required a pretty hefty bill in return. The average cost per night in one of these pricy abodes was $4,575, and the average cost for a 3-day, 2-night stay was $9,150.

Each guest had to fork over an average of $549 to stay in one of these places, and the average bedroom cost was $1,154.

On average, the cost of a single weekend in the most expensive Airbnb in the state would cost you 9.1 months worth of rent in the same area, although in some cases the number was much higher.

For instance, in Missouri, with the $24,000 spent on a 3-day weekend in their most expensive Airbnb, a local could pay 34 months of average Farmington, MO rent!

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking to travel in style, Airbnb definitely has options to suit your tastes — whether you’re interested in renting out a castle or a cottage.

So the next time wanderlust takes you away, check your credit limit and see which of these over-the-top Airbnb rentals will work for you!
