Weather plays a major role in choosing a getaway destination. Extreme heat, heavy rain, or bitter cold can quickly derail planned activities and make for a less enjoyable stay.

If you prefer mild, spring-like temperatures year-round, the destinations below are known for consistent, comfortable climates. While no location guarantees perfect weather, these cities come remarkably close.

If spring weather sounds ideal, here are 5 destinations where you can experience an “eternal spring” season, nearly any time of the year — along with ideas for staying on points and what to do once you’re there.

1. Mexico City, Mexico

When much of the U.S. is experiencing winter, Mexico City typically enjoys mild temperatures and clear skies. The city is a great choice for year-round visits, but you may encounter a few rainy days in the summer months.

Mexico City Cathedral
Mexico City is a vibrant metropolis with pleasant year-round weather.

The best months to visit are October through May.

Where To Stay in Mexico City

Mexico City’s neighborhoods each offer distinct vibes, from upscale Polanco and historic Centro to artsy Roma Norte and LGBTQ+ friendly (and fun) Zona Rosa.

There are excellent options across major loyalty hotel programs, including the Andaz Mexico City Condesa (using World of Hyatt points), the JW Marriott Hotel Mexico City Polanco (with Marriott Bonvoy points), the Hilton Mexico City Reforma (using Hilton Honors points), and the InterContinental Hotels Presidente Mexico City (using IHG One Rewards points).

Award availability is generally strong across brands, and nightly rates often provide solid redemption value. You can search for additional places to use your hotel loyalty points on rooms.aero.

Things To Do in Mexico City

  • City walking tour: Explore the Zocalo, Metropolitan Cathedral, Palacio de Bellas Artes, and more.
  • National Museum of Anthropology: This extraordinary (and massive) museum houses an impressive collection of artifacts from pre-Mayan cultures.
  • Xochimilco: Take a leisurely boat ride through these ancient canals, which are also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
  • Teotihuacan Pyramids: Don’t miss a visit to this epic archaeological site, home to the pyramids of the sun and moon.
  • Take in a Lucha Libre match: For a fun night out, join the fans and spend a few hours experiencing Mexican wrestling at one of Mexico City’s arenas.

2. Bogotá, Colombia

Bogotá is one of my favorite cities, both gastronomically and experientially. Thanks to its proximity to the equator, the city doesn’t experience extreme seasonal swings. The sun can be intense, but temperatures remain cooler due to Bogotá’s high elevation.

Bogota Salt Cathedrals
The Zipaquirá Salt Cathedrals, outside Bogotá, are a must-visit.

The best months to visit are December through March and July through September, when conditions are typically driest.

Where To Stay in Bogotá

All major hotel chains have properties in Bogotá, making it easy to redeem hotel loyalty points, free night award certificates, or hotel statement credits for your stay.

Whether I use my up-to-$600 annual Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts credit (2 semiannual $300 credits) at the Westin or my Marriott Bonvoy fifth-night-free benefit at the Four Points by Sheraton, I can usually find great value in Bogotá. Hyatt, IHG, and Hilton also have several properties in the city.

Things To Do in Bogotá

There are far too many fun things to list here, but these suggestions are a great place to start.

Bogota Usaquen Rail Station
You can take the train from the city center or Usaquen station to the salt cathedrals.
  • The Botero and Gold Museums: Botero is famous for his rotund sculptures and paintings, and the Gold Museum has extraordinary pieces that tell the story of gold’s connection to Bogotá.
  • Take a street art tour: Street art is legal in Bogotá, and a guided tour of the city’s murals is truly impressive.
  • Andre’s Carne de Res: While the Andre’s eating establishment in the city center is fun, there’s nothing like the original, over-the-top Andre’s in the town of Chia.
  • Zipaquirá Salt Cathedrals: The old-time railway from Bogotá takes you on a lively journey (with live music) to the carved underground chapels.
  • Monserrate: Take the funicular to the top of the mountain for an incredible view of the city, a leisurely hike, and a visit to the basilica.

If you take the train to Zipaquirá, there may be a stop in Cajicá on the return journey. You can explore the town and then take a taxi to Andrés Carne de Res in Chía before returning to Bogotá.

3. Quito, Ecuador

It’s always spring in Quito. Located directly on the equator and sitting at 9,350 feet above sea level, the city enjoys mild temperatures year-round.

Quito Ecuador Old Town Center
Quito Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The best months to visit are June through September, when Quito is dry. However, showers are usually short-lived during other months.

Where To Stay in Quito

Quito offers several major hotel brands, as the city is a frequent stop for travelers en route to the Galapagos Islands. Try the J.W. Marriott Quito for an upscale stay that won’t break the bank. The Hilton Colon Quito is another option, just 10 minutes from Old Town.

Casa Gangotena, a Mr & Mrs Smith property in the heart of the old city, can be booked with World of Hyatt points. Use IHG One Rewards points for the Holiday Inn Express Quito, a charming boutique hotel across from the J.W. Marriott.

Things To Do in Quito

Learn more about Quito’s best offerings at the city’s official tourism site.

4. Nairobi, Kenya

Nairobi is known for its incredible wildlife experiences, but the city offers far more than safaris alone.

Feeding Giraffes Nairobi
You can feed and touch the giraffes at the Giraffe Center.

The best months to visit include June, July, August, September, and February, which are the driest. February and March are also among the warmest months, with temperatures reaching 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Where To Stay in Nairobi

If you have hotel points, there are plenty of options for booking award nights in Nairobi with Marriott Bonvoy, World of Hyatt, Hilton Honors, and IHG One Rewards.

Our article on Nairobi lists several lodging options where you can redeem your points.

Things To Do in Nairobi

  • Nairobi National Park: Nairobi is the only city in the world with a national park just outside its borders. Within 20 to 30 minutes of the city center, you can see wildlife such as giraffes, zebras, lions, rhinos, and more.
  • Sheldrick Wildlife Trust baby elephant orphanage: This famous elephant orphanage rescues and rehabilitates baby elephants.
  • The Giraffe Center: Learn about Rothschild giraffes while feeding and interacting with them.
  • Carnivore: If it’s your first time in Nairobi, visit the Simba Saloon at Carnivore restaurant for live music, African decor, and a meal you won’t forget.
  • Tour the Kibera slums: This tour is not for the faint of heart, but it offers insight into the daily life of one of Africa’s largest urban communities.

5. Antigua, Guatemala

Antigua is a charming colonial city located about an hour from Guatemala City. You can fly into La Aurora International Airport (GUA) and then take an affordable Uber, taxi, or shuttle to Antigua.

Antigua Guatemala
Walking the streets of Antigua, Guatemala. Image Credit: Lori Zaino

The best months to visit are October through May. Antigua has more rain than some of the other destinations on this list, as it sits near rainforest regions.

Where To Stay in Antigua

Antigua and the surrounding area offer unique lodging, but there are few places to redeem hotel loyalty points unless you stay in Guatemala City and take a day trip.

When you’re looking for lodging in a city without hotel chains, it can be helpful to review the hotel and travel credits available on your cards.

Antigua Lodging Delta Stays
Use your up-to-$200 Delta Stay credit for lodging in Antigua. Image Credit: Delta

For example, if you have an eligible Delta co-branded credit card, you could receive up to $200 in annual credits when booking a hotel through Delta Stays.

Things To Do in Antigua

Simply walking Antigua’s cobblestone streets is a feast for the senses, but there are several other activities to choose from.

Guatemala Fruit lady
The beautiful streets of Antigua.

  • Take a walking tour: Visit historic churches and the Santa Catalina Arch, and learn about Antigua’s precious jade connection.
  • Hike the Acatenango volcano: If you’re up for the challenge, hike an active volcano! It’s an overnight hike, but you can also visit during a day trip.
  • Take a coffee tour: Visit a coffee farm just outside the city and learn the process from seed to cup.
  • Chocolate tour: Antigua is known for its chocolate, so consider a tour, a chocolate-making class, or a visit to the Chocolate Museum.
  • Hobbitenango: For fans of “The Lord of the Rings,” this eco-village is worth exploring.

Final Thoughts

I used the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as the source for my weather data in this article, and you can always search to find the same NOAA weather information before your trip. For example, if you’re looking for year-round weather information for Madrid, Spain, you would search “Madrid weather by month”.

I love a mild spring climate and have visited all of these cities to enjoy the moderate temperatures, redeem hotel loyalty points, and experience each destination’s unique culture.
