You’ve probably seen them at the airport before… people who whisk through airport security and customs, like George Clooney in “Up In The Air,” before you can even finish taking your shoes off. How do they do it? They aren’t celebrities, or even airline employees — more likely than not they’re just taking advantage of a government program called Global Entry.
In this post, we will show you what Global Entry is, why any traveler who values their time should want it, and better yet how you can get it paid for by using a travel rewards credit card.
What Is Global Entry?
Global Entry is one of 5 Trusted Traveler Programs offered by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency. When you have Global Entry, you get an expedited immigration and customs security screening process when returning to the U.S. from any international travel.
To apply for Global Entry, you need to pay a $100 application fee, fill out and submit your application, then have an interview at your local Global Entry enrollment center. Once you’re approved, your membership is good for a period of 5years.
With Global Entry, instead of waiting in a long line with everyone else waiting to clear customs, you’ll head to an expedited section with a special kiosk where you will scan your passport, have your photo taken, verify your identity, and receive a printed form confirming your information. From there you can jump to the front of the customs line, answer any questions the agent has, and be on your way.
Instead of waiting in line with hundreds of people for an hour or more, you can be through the entire customs process in as few as 5 minutes. As if that weren’t enough, Global Entry includes a TSA PreCheck membership, giving you expedited security screening when on flights from within or departing from the U.S. According to the TSA, 94% of TSA PreCheck members wait less than 5 minutes during screening.
So if you’re looking for a way to improve your overall airport experience by spending significantly less time waiting in line, getting a Global Entry membership is a great way to do just that.
Credit Cards That Cover the Cost of Global Entry
When it comes to credit cards that offer a Global Entry credit, you have over 30 options to choose from!
We’ll first detail a summary of our favorite cards, each offering a $100 statement credit for Global Entry every 4 years. Then we’ll break down every credit card that offers a Global Entry credit, by credit issuer, to help you determine which card is the best option for you.

How can I get a Global Entry membership paid for?
The easiest way is by holding a credit card that offers a $100 Global Entry application credit every 4 to 5 years that you hold the card.
What is the difference between Global Entry and TSA PreCheck?
TSA PreCheck gives a traveler expedited security screening for domestic flights, along with international flights departing from a U.S. airport.
Global Entry provides all of the benefits of TSA PreCheck, plus expedited U.S. customs screening when returning to the U.S. from an international destination.
The price of TSA PreCheck is $78, and the price of Global Entry is $100. Since Global Entry includes TSA PreCheck, it almost always makes sense to opt for that program.
Can I use my Global Entry credit for someone else?
Yes, you are allowed to use the Global Entry application credit provided from your credit card for anyone you’d like.
What is the best credit card for Global Entry fees?
Our favorite travel rewards card that provides a Global Entry credit is the Amex Platinum card thanks to all of the premium benefits it offers, like industry-leading airport lounge access, hotel elite status, and annual credits to help offset the card’s annual fee.
Which countries offer Global Entry?
U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents, and citizens of the following countries are eligible for Global Entry membership:

How long does it take to get approved for Global Entry?
The entire process, from having your application approved to scheduling your interview, can take anywhere from 2 to 6 months depending on how booked up your local CBP office is with interviews.
To expedite this, you might be eligible for Global Entry Enrollment on Arrival, which allows Global Entry applicants who are conditionally approved to complete their interviews upon arrival into the U.S. at eligible airports. This eliminates the need for you to schedule an interview at a local enrollment center to complete your interview process.
What happens at a Global Entry interview?

Common questions usually include asking you about items from your application, your previous travel history and future travel plans, along with why you want Global Entry.
Is Global Entry worth it?
If you’re someone who hates waiting in line, values your time, and wants an improved airport experience, then yes getting Global Entry is 100% worth it.
