In this guide, we’ll discuss how the application process works and who’s eligible for a welcome offer on the Amex Business Platinum card.

Targeted offers are discussed in the article below. Please note that these offers are not available to all applicants. Any information related to targeted offers has been independently collected and has not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Amex Business Platinum Card 250K Welcome Offer

The Amex Business Platinum card features this public welcome offer:

  • As High As 300,000 points. Find Out Your Offer. You may be eligible for as high as 300,000 Membership Rewards® Points after spending $20,000 in your first 3 months of Membership. Welcome offers vary and you may not be eligible for an offer.

The potential to earn as high as 300,000 points is staggering, as it’s the highest welcome offer we’ve ever seen on the Amex Business Platinum card. You’ll complete the application, just as normal, and Amex will provide a decision using a soft credit check. (Source: American Express)

If you’re denied, your credit score won’t be affected. If you’re approved, you’ll be able to review the welcome offer you qualify for — which could potentially be 250,000 points or even as high as 300,000 points. A hard inquiry may be added to your credit report only if you choose to move forward and open the new account.

Eligibility & Pop-Up Rules for the 250K Bonus Offer

American Express has become increasingly transparent about who’s eligible for a welcome offer. During the application process for the Amex Business Platinum card, Amex may show a “pop-up message” indicating that you’re not eligible for the welcome offer based on your account history.

If you do see the pop-up, you can continue without an offer or withdraw your application with no impact to your credit score. This tool is designed to help prevent surprise denials, but this also means Amex is tracking your behavior and spending activity across its consumer and business cards.

If you don’t see the pop-up window, though, you can proceed to the approval stage and the bonus offer. However, some people may not see the highest advertised offer, such as 250,000 or 300,000 points. That’s because these targeted welcome offers depend on the information inputted in the application and other potential factors, including:

  • Your spending patterns on existing Amex accounts
  • How many Amex cards you’ve opened and closed recently (and length of account history)
  • How many Amex bonus offers you’ve earned in the past
  • Source: American Express

For example, if you’ve opened too many Amex cards and closed them just after earning the welcome offers, it’s possible that Amex may flag your account and impact your welcome offer eligibility.

In addition, American Express generally applies “lifetime language” to its bonus offers, which typically limits you to earning a welcome offer on a specific card once. You’ll want to review the “Offer & Benefit Terms” to see if language like this appears: “You may not be eligible to receive a welcome offer if you have or have had this Card or previous versions of this Card.”

If there isn’t any lifetime language present in your application terms, then it may be possible that you could earn a welcome offer on the Amex Business Platinum card again.

Option 1: Check on Amex Directly (Try This First)

First, check the American Express website to see if you’re eligible for the 250,000-point welcome offer.

As mentioned, the current publicly available offer is: As High As 300,000 points. Find Out Your Offer. You may be eligible for as high as 300,000 Membership Rewards® Points after spending $20,000 in your first 3 months of Membership. Welcome offers vary and you may not be eligible for an offer.

Like all targeted offers, these offers aren’t available to all applicants. Here’s a targeted bonus offer we’ve found in the past that gives 250,000 bonus points after spending $20,000 in the first 3 months:

Hot Tip:

What are 250,000 points worth? Based on our latest point valuations, we estimate that Amex Membership Rewards points are worth about 2.2 cents apieceso 250,000 points translates into roughly $5,500 for travel!

Option 2: Targeted Email Offers

Don’t dismiss those targeted emails or mailers. These offers may provide a special targeted invitation for you to apply. If you want targeted offers, opt in to receive offers in your Amex account. You can find this under Account Services > Alerts and Communications > Marketing Email Preferences.

Option 3: Check on CardMatch

Making the Most of Your 250K Points

You can redeem Amex Membership Rewards points in dozens of ways, whether you’re interested in flying some of the world’s best first and business class seats or flying the whole family to Europe:

Book 4 Round-Trip Economy Flights to Paris:

Programs like Virgin Atlantic and Air France-KLM Flying Blue frequently offer one-way tickets to destinations across Europe for as low as 12,000 to 25,000 points in economy. You can transfer your Amex Membership Rewards points at a 1:1 ratio to both of these programs.

Book 2 Round-Trip Business Class Flights to Europe

If flying upfront is more of your style, Air France or KLM tickets start around 120,000 miles per person.

Again, you can transfer Amex points at a 1:1 ratio.

5 Nights at the W Punta de Mita in Mexico

Amex also has strong hotel partners, including Marriott Bonvoy (1:1), Hilton Honors (1:2), or Choice Privileges (1:1).

250,000 Marriott Bonvoy points could score you 5 nights at the W Punta de Mita, a luxury beachfront hotel. About an hour north of Puerto Vallarta, this property offers world-class dining, a relaxing spa, and 2 pools. All Marriott Bonvoy members can get their fifth consecutive award night free (so you’d only technically pay for 4 nights).

Final Thoughts

The targeted 250,000-point welcome offer on the Amex Business Platinum card is one of the higher publicly available offers, though some applicants may be targeted for as high as 300,000 points by checking the American Express website directly. As always, it’s important to check your eligibility — including any pop-up messages — before applying to confirm you qualify for a welcome offer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 250K welcome offer for the Amex Business Platinum card still available?

The 250,000-point welcome offer on the Amex Business Platinum card is typically targeted and not always publicly available. Your version of the welcome offer can change frequently, so it’s best to apply and see which bonus offer you’re eligible for.

How do I know if I am eligible for the 250K bonus?

The easiest way to confirm eligibility is to start the application. American Express will show you the exact welcome offer you qualify for (and whether you’re eligible) before a hard credit inquiry takes effect.

If you don’t see a pop-up warning, you’re generally eligible for that specific bonus offer!

Does having a personal Amex Platinum card affect eligibility?

In some cases, yes, as American Express takes into account all of the consumer and business cards you’ve opened and closed.

That means having a personal Platinum card could impact your eligibility for certain bonus offers on business versions. However, eligibility depends on the applicant, so it’s always best to apply and see what Amex hands you as a targeted welcome offer.

Can I earn the 250K bonus more than once?

Typically, no. American Express includes “lifetime language” on most welcome offer terms, which limits you to earning a welcome offer on a specific card once per lifetime. If you’ve previously had the card, you may not be eligible again unless you receive a targeted bonus offer without this restriction.

To check if lifetime language is included in the bonus offer terms, head to “Offer & Benefit Terms,” and see if the following wording is present: “You may not be eligible to receive a welcome offer if you have or have had this Card or previous versions of this Card.”

How long after spending will I receive the 250K points?

Officially, Amex states that bonus points are usually awarded within 8 to 12 weeks. However, many cardholders report receiving their points much sooner — sometimes even a few days after completing the required spend.

What should I do if I see a pop-up saying I’m not eligible for the 250K bonus?

If you see the pop-up notification when applying for the Amex Business Platinum card, you can either proceed without the bonus offer or withdraw your application with no impact to your credit score. It’s generally best to wait at least a few weeks, adjust your card activity over time (like increasing spend or spacing out applications), and try again in the future.
