Which Airport Lounges Can I Access With the Amex Platinum and Business Platinum?

The Platinum Card^® from American Express and The Business Platinum Card^® from American Express are both widely regarded as some of the best premium cards available for frequent travelers. They offer high-end benefits and generous statement credits in exchange for their high annual fees.

One of the standout perks of each card is complimentary airport lounge access. Having either of these cards provides access to the American Express Global Lounge Collection, which includes lounges across several different networks, including American Express Centurion Lounges, Delta Sky Clubs, Priority Pass upon enrollment, and more.

In total, cardholders can access more than 1,550 airport lounges in 140 countries worldwide.

Quick Overview: Amex Platinum Lounge Access

The Amex Platinum card and Amex Business Platinum card unlock access to the American Express Global Lounge Collection, which boasts more than 1,550 airport lounges in 140 countries (Source: American Express).

The Collection is versatile, as it allows cardmembers to enter lounges belonging to several different lounge networks, including:

• Aspire Lounges
• Centurion Lounges (both in the U.S. and abroad)
• 10 visits a year to Delta Sky Club (when flying Delta the same day, plus the ability to unlock unlimited visits with $75,000 in spending on the card annually)
• Escape Lounges – The Centurion Studio Partner
• Certain Lufthansa Lounges (when flying Lufthansa the same day; cardholder access ends October 1, 2026)
• Plaza Premium Lounges
• Priority Pass lounges (enrollment required)
• Some Virgin Clubhouses

Note that the Amex Platinum card does not grant any sort of access to American Airlines Admirals Clubs or United Clubs. Nor will you be able to enter a Delta Sky Club when you’re not flying with the airline.

Also, as of July 8, 2026, American Express has implemented new access rules for its Centurion Lounges across the U.S. and in Hong Kong (HKG), London Heathrow (LHR), Melbourne (MEL), Sydney (SYD), and Tokyo Haneda (HND).

Guests must be flying on the same flight as the cardmember, and cardmembers can enter Centurion Lounges only up to 5 hours before departure time when visiting during a layover (Source: American Express). However, if you’re visiting a Centurion Lounge at your origin airport, you can only enter up to 3 hours before departure.

Bringing a guest into a Centurion Lounge now incurs an additional fee. There is a $50 fee for each adult guest and a $30 fee for each child 2 to 17. Cardmembers can unlock complimentary access for 2 guests by spending $75,000 annually on the card.

Finally, remember that you must present your physical Amex Platinum card or Amex Business Platinum card, a same-day boarding pass, and a valid government ID to be permitted entry.

Having the Amex Platinum card or the Amex Business Platinum card does not provide any sort of access to American Airlines Admirals Clubs, United Clubs, or Delta Sky Clubs if you’re not flying Delta.

Calculating the Value of Complimentary Lounge Access

The cost of purchasing an airport lounge membership is constantly increasing. It’s not unusual to see $600 annual membership fees for access to a single lounge network.

To understand the value of the complimentary lounge membership that comes with the Amex Platinum card and Amex Business Platinum card, let’s look at what membership would cost for a typical airport lounge network.

With the cost to purchase a membership at a single lounge network approaching the annual fee of both the Amex Platinum card and the Amex Business Platinum card, it’s easy to see how the much broader lounge access that comes complimentary with either card is a better value.

Family Lounge Access

Complimentary guest access for Amex Platinum card and Amex Business Platinum cardholders is based on calendar spending for Centurion Lounge access. Cardmembers need to spend at least $75,000 in a calendar year to unlock complimentary access for 2 guests. Otherwise, the fee per guest is $50 per adult over 18 or $30 per child between 2 and 17.

Also note that as of July 8, 2026, guests must be traveling on the same flight as the cardmember.

If you frequently travel with a large family, it can be frustrating when lounge access is denied to more than 2 guests. Sure, you and your partner could each be primary cardmembers with your own individual cards, but fortunately, that’s not necessary. For $195, you can add an Additional Platinum Card (rates & fees). Each additional user receives the same lounge benefits as the primary cardmember.

Remember that additional users don’t have to be traveling with you to have lounge access. Plus, they can each bring 2 guests to most lounges, though those guests also need to pay for access according to the prices listed above.

Delta Air Lines Traveler

Without the Amex Platinum card or Amex Business Platinum card, a frequent Delta traveler would still need SkyMiles Medallion elite status to purchase a Sky Club membership to have lounge access. Or they could hold the correct Delta co-branded credit card that provides Sky Club access.

A Delta Sky Club membership that allows 2 guests would cost $1,495 annually. A single membership is $695.

Meanwhile, the annual fees of the Amex Platinum card ($895 – rates & fees) or Amex Business Platinum card ($895 – rates & fees) could secure access for an entire family to over 1,550 lounges worldwide, not just Delta-affiliated lounges.

Bottom Line: The Amex Platinum card and Amex Business Platinum card, with annual fees hovering near a single Sky Club membership, deliver far more value for the Delta traveler. Plus, you receive all the cards’ additional benefits, including the initial welcome bonus offer, statement credits, hotel and rental car elite status, and access to more than Delta-affiliated lounges. 

Business Traveler

If you travel for business, chances are you value lounge access. The expense can add up quickly if you pay for an annual lounge membership or purchase day passes.

The Amex Business Platinum card can give you unlimited access to over 1,550 lounges worldwide for less than the cost of purchasing just 2 day passes per month or a single annual lounge membership.

The additional benefits of the Amex Business Platinum card can also serve the business traveler well. For example, the card comes with an incidental airline fee credit, a statement credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, complimentary elite status with car rental and hotel programs, premium perks at Fine Hotels + Resorts properties, and more.

Leisure Traveler

If you currently pay for lounge access, having the Amex Platinum card for complimentary lounge access as a leisure traveler makes sense.If you travel just once a quarter and pay for 2 travelers to access a lounge, you could spend $400 a year on lounge access.

Having the Amex Platinum card adds worldwide lounge access for you and up to 2 guests at many lounges. You can visit for 15 minutes or 3 hours without needing to consider whether a single-visit pass is worth the cost.

The Centurion Lounge Network

You can’t purchase a membership to the Centurion Lounge network. You need to have the Amex Platinum card, the Amex Business Platinum card, or the Centurion^® Card from American Express to gain access.

Centurion Lounges, both in the U.S. and abroad, are useful places to hang out if you’re a frequent traveler. Order from the menu, take a nap in the zen room, or relax with a premium cocktail during your visit. You may even get a manicure or massage if your schedule allows. Services and amenities vary by location.

Note that you can only visit a Centurion Lounge up to 3 hours before a departing flight, and as of July 8, 2026, up to 5 hours before a connecting flight.

As of February 1, 2023, Amex Platinum and Amex Business Platinum cardmembers can no longer bring complimentary guests into the Centurion Lounge. The guest fee is $50 per adult and $30 per child from 2 to 17. Also note that, as of July 8, 2026, all Centurion Lounge guests must be traveling on the same flight as the cardmember.

Cardmembers who spend $75,000 in eligible purchases in a calendar year can unlock complimentary access for 2 guests. Note that this spending requirement applies to all cardholders (the main Amex Platinum or Amex Business Platinum cardholder and associated additional users, as well as Employee and Expense cardholders).

Priority Pass

There are more than 1,400 Priority Pass lounges worldwide, so you’ll likely find one during your travels.

A Priority Pass membership can also provide access to nonlounge experiences at airports worldwide, including restaurant credits, nap rooms, spa treatments, and more.

You must register for Priority Pass once you receive your Amex Platinum card or Amex Business Platinum card in the mail. Log in to your online account and enroll in the benefits tab of your account, or call the number on the back of your card.

Delta Sky Club

Cardmembers traveling on a same-day Delta flight receive 10 visits a year to over 50 Delta Sky Clubs (plus the ability to unlock unlimited visits). Cardmembers who are not traveling with Delta on the same day do not get access to Delta Sky Clubs.

To enter, show your boarding pass, ID, and Amex Platinum card or Amex Business Platinum card. Although guests are not included with this type of entry, the cardholder may purchase discounted access for up to 2 guests for a fee: $50 to visit a typical Delta Sky Club and $25 to Grab and Go locations.

Lufthansa Lounges

Note: Access to Lufthansa Lounges for Amex Platinum card and Amex Business Platinum cardmembers ends on October 1, 2026 (Source: American Express).

Until October 1, 2026, cardmembers receive complimentary access to Lufthansa business class lounges when flying same-day on a Lufthansa Group flight (Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines).

If the cardholder is flying business class, they also have access to the Lufthansa Senator Lounges. Centurion cardmembers have access to Lufthansa First Class, Senator, and Business lounges regardless of ticket class.

Guests are typically not allowed but may be granted access for a fee.

Virgin Clubhouses

Cardholders can visit Virgin Clubhouses in Los Angeles (LAX), New York (JFK), San Francisco (SFO), Washington, D.C. (IAD), and Johannesburg (JNB) in South Africa.

Plaza Premium Lounge

Based in Hong Kong, Plaza Premium Lounge has a vast network of more than 120 airport lounges available to Amex Platinum and Amex Business Platinum cardmembers.

Escape Lounges – The Centurion Studio Partner

With over 10 locations throughout the U.S., Escape Lounges – The Centurion Studio Partner offers premium beverage, food, workstations, and places to relax between flights.

Cardholders may bring 2 additional guests at no charge.

Aspire Lounges

The Aspire Lounges (formerly Airspace Lounge) in the U.S. are at the San Diego (SAN) and Ontario (ONT), California, airports and offer complimentary access for cardmembers.

You can also find Aspire Lounges at a handful of airports worldwide. They offer complimentary refreshments, a business area, Wi-Fi, a conference room (SAN), and showers (SAN), and 2 guests are permitted at no additional charge.

Final Thoughts

The Amex Platinum card and Amex Business Platinum card provide access to over 1,550 airport lounges in 140 countries worldwide, which is the most comprehensive access offered by any travel cards on the market.

If you travel somewhat frequently, gaining access to this swath of lounges makes paying the annual fee on either of these cards worth it, never mind the long list of other perks you receive by holding either card. And considering that the cost of many single-network memberships approaches the cost of the annual fee on either of these cards, it makes holding an Amex Platinum card or Amex Business Platinum card even more worth it.

If you’ve been without a lounge membership and have considered adding lounge access to your travels, you won’t find a more cost-effective route to unlimited worldwide lounge access.

Just remember the new guest and timing rules in effect since July 8, 2026, for Centurion Lounges and that access to Lufthansa Lounges will be removed as of October 1, 2026.
