The Business Platinum Card® from American Express represents one of the most important symbols in the business world. This card is one of the most prestigious cards available to business owners.

This card’s benefits are numerous, with perks ranging from fancy airport lounge access to the ability to earn 5x points per dollar spent on flights and prepaid hotels through Amex Travel.

Amex has also pioneered shopping credits. Shopping credits, instead of being focused on airfare or lodging, are designed to be spent at retailers. In this case, Amex offers a statement credit solely for qualifying Dell purchases.

In this guide, we’ll be showing you the best purchases you can make to get free (or deeply discounted) Dell merchandise. Let’s get started.

Amex Business Platinum Card

The Amex Business Platinum card is one of the quintessential cards you should be adding to your portfolio of tools to help build your business. It’s a worthwhile card for anybody tackling the huge challenge of starting a business.

Besides the 35% rebate when redeeming for airfare with Pay With Points, the $200 annual airline incidental fee credit, Centurion lounge access, and automatic elite status at Hilton Honors and Marriott Bonvoy, you’ll also get up to $200 annual Dell Technologies credit by getting up to $100 semi-annually for U.S. purchases.

Keep in mind that you must enroll to use this benefit.

What Counts and Doesn’t Count as a Dell Purchase

To use the Dell credit, you’ll need to make qualifying purchases.

According to American Express, Dell credits are “valid only on purchases made on your Business Platinum card directly with Dell or at dell.com in the U.S. and U.S. territories where Dell is the merchant of record for the purchase. Not valid on online purchases shipped outside of the U.S.”

Statement credits can take 2-4 weeks to post. Lastly, Dell gift cards do not count.

Remember, you can use up to 3 payment methods on each Dell order, which could potentially enable you to get $600 in Dell credits (through the end of 2020) or $300 in Dell credits (starting 2021) in 1 transaction.

All you have to do is click Add Another Payment Method under Split your payment at the bottom of the Payment step.

Frequently asked questions

What can I buy with an American Express Dell credit?

You can buy a lot of things with your Dell credit. As long as your purchase is made directly with Dell or via Dell.com in the U.S. or U.S. territories and any online purchases are shipped within the U.S., your purchase will qualify for Dell credits.

Remember that Dell gift cards don’t count.

How does an Amex statement credit work?

This particular benefit requires enrollment. You will need to log into your online American Express account, select your Amex Business Platinum card, and head over to the Benefits section.

Then, you need to enroll in the Shop Dell with Business Platinum benefit.

What is a $200 statement credit?

A $200 statement credit is essentially a refund of up to $200 on qualifying purchases.

The definition of qualifying purchases will vary depending on the terms and conditions of the statement credit.

Does the Amex Business Platinum card get Uber credit?

No, it does not. The only cards that get the Uber credit are the different varieties of The Platinum Card® from American Express, including the American Express Platinum Card® for Schwab and The Platinum Card® from American Express Exclusively for Morgan Stanley. The business version, also known as the Amex Business Platinum card, doesn’t get the Uber credit.

Is the Amex Business Platinum card worth it?

Ultimately, it’s a judgment call to make for yourself. However, based on the numerous benefits you may enjoy, we’d say that it’s pretty worth it.

How does a statement credit work?

A statement credit behaves a lot like a refund. You simply charge your card on a qualifying purchase, wait a few weeks, and see that a credit was issued to your account.

This essentially acts as a refund, except you don’t need to return anything. It’s like free money!

  1. Need ideas for $600 bracket!

Quick question, can you/anyone elaborate on the following:

” Remember, you can use up to 3 payment methods on each Dell order, which could potentially enable you to get $600 in Dell credits (through the end of 2020) or $300 in Dell credits (starting 2021) in 1 transaction”

What would splitting up the payment do if the charge is going to the same statement? Thanks for clarifying!

    • Hi Mota,

The Dell credits are given out per “purchase”, not per statement. So if you split one transaction into multiple payments then you should receive multiple statement credits.

The concept of this article is GREAT. However, the items listed appear to be out of date. The printer you listed and drone are no longer on the Dell website. Interesting find: toner is on the website. That makes this an absolute no brainer.
