Update: The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

Spirit Airlines is offering a complimentary 500 Free Spirit points to anyone who enrolls in the airline’s latest promotion.

Before you ask, there are no strings attached to this offer. You simply need to provide a couple of pieces of information you’ll get 500 points deposited into your account.

Here’s what you need to know!

Offer Details

In order to receive your 500 Free Spirit points, you need to provide your information at this link.

Here are a few more things you should be aware of:

  • You can enroll for the promotion between now and December 31, 2022.
  • The points will post within 2 weeks of enrollment.
  • The points you earn through the promotion won’t count towards status or any other metric. But they can be redeemed for anything that you can redeem Free Spirit points for.

How To Redeem Free Spirit Points

The Free Spirit program employs a dynamic pricing model, so the mileage cost of a ticket is essentially tied to the cash cost of a ticket. At a minimum, you’d need 2,500 Free Spirit points for a ticket.

This promotion gets you 1/5 of the way to that minimum threshold, so you’d need to complete some other qualifying activity to get closer to a free ticket.

Free Spirit points hover around 1 cent apiece in value, though you are able to get more value from more expensive tickets. Unfortunately, Spirit doesn’t partner with other major carriers, so you’re stuck flying Spirit if you want to use your points.

There’s also a points-and-cash option available, allowing you to redeem as few as 1,000 points and combine that with a cash co-pay to cover the cost of a ticket.

There are a few other frustrating aspects of the program, too. You’re charged a close-in booking fee of $50 if you book a ticket within 28 days of departure, which essentially incentivizes you to book further out and not use your points to offset a typically more expensive last-minute ticket. Many people who use points use them to negate an unusually high fare, so Spirit tries to prevent this by charging a fee.

Hot Tip: Learn about everything you should know about the Free Spirit program in our detailed guide!

Final Thoughts

We’ll never say no to free, so it’s worth visiting the registration link on Spirit’s website to pick up the free bonus points. To put those points to use, though, you’ll need to be aware of Free Spirit’s quirks and earn more points from other qualifying activities in order to get closer to a free ticket.
