Savvy travelers know that not all airline seats are all created equal. The experience can wildly vary not only between airlines but even among different aircraft and configurations within the same fleet.

That’s why picking the best seat on the plane often requires some research, though the airline’s website may not always be the most reliable place to look. Fortunately, a few tools like AeroLOPA (and the now-defunct SeatGuru) have been great resources for travelers.

Today, AeroLOPA has launched a useful new mobile app for iOS and Android, making it easier than ever to research your aircraft and choose the right seat. Here’s what you should know about this cool new app.

AeroLopa Launches a New App

Travelers curious about the seat map on their next flight can learn a lot from AeroLOPA, often providing far more detail than what you’ll find on the airline’s own website.

The launch of AeroLOPA’s app comes with a bit of a revival of the previously beloved SeatGuru, which was shut down by its parent company, Tripadvisor, in November 2025. AeroLOPA has now tapped into the expertise of Matt Daimler, who founded SeatGuru in 2001, by bringing him on board as the cofounder.

If you’ve missed the old SeatGuru, there’s some good news: AeroLOPA’s new app (iOS, Android) incorporates many of the features that made SeatGuru such a beloved site over the years — though with many more improvements.

Hot Tip:

While AeroLOPA seat maps remain free on the website, the app brings an enhanced mobile experience for travelers on the go. The app comes with a 14-day free trial. After that, a monthly subscription costs $5 per month or $29 annually.

AeroLOPA App Features

Rather than relying on oversimplified airline seat maps, AeroLOPA’s diagrams are actually created to scale. That allows travelers to see fine details such as window alignment, amount of bulkhead legroom, exit-door intrusions, proximity to lavatories, and other accessible features.

The seat ratings are marked as green, yellow, and red to indicate the best seats, average seats, and seats to avoid, respectively. Rather than relying on traveler opinions, AeroLOPA bases these ratings on on real measurements, seat features, and aircraft geometry.

“Seat ratings have always been somebody’s opinion,” said Milne. “Ours are measurements. When we say one business class outranks another — or that one seat beats its neighbor — it’s because the drawings say so: the bed is longer, the seat is wider, the window actually lines up, the door doesn’t bulge into your footwell. A traveler shouldn’t have to trust a green rectangle; they can check our numbers with a tape measure.”

Travelers can also save maps for offline access, and they can receive push notifications if day-of aircraft changes occur that may impact their seat map. Other interesting features of this new app include:

  • Route-based seat map search across multiple carriers: Search a specific route to compare aircraft and seat maps across different airlines to make the most informed choice.
  • “Sunny Side” feature: For those chasing a good sunrise or sunset, the app shows you which side of the plane to sit on based on where the sun will be on your flight.
  • “Super Schedule” tool: A tool that helps travelers choose between multiple flights on the same route by examining each aircraft scheduled, including Wi-Fi, cabin configurations, lavatories, and seat specifications.

Final Thoughts

An underrated way to choose the best flight is by looking at the seat map and knowing that you’ll have somewhere comfortable to sit for your journey. AeroLOPA takes the premise of SeatGuru into the future with detailed, architect-drawn seat maps that let you dig into the nitty-gritty details of your next seat — and maybe even impress your friends and family with your aviation knowledge.

The new app brings all of this to life on your phone, with enhanced features that will make researching your aircraft and picking your next flight (and seat) much easier.
