Air Canada will expand its route network by adding flights from Canada to Cincinnati (CVG) and Jacksonville (JAX), according to tweets from the 2 airports.

Here’s what you need to know about the 2 new routes.

Air Canada Increasing U.S. Presence Next May

Daily, nonstop flights will start between Cincinnati and Montreal (YUL) beginning in May 2025. Air Canada‘s service from Jacksonville to Toronto (YYZ) will also begin in May 2025. However, it’s unclear whether this will be a daily service.

Cincinnati Airport (which is actually located in Northern Kentucky) already offers daily service to Toronto. And Air Canada currently flies several routes from Toronto and Montreal to the Sunshine State. Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Fort Myers (RSW), Miami (MIA), Orlando (MCO), and Tampa (TPA) all have flights to Toronto, Montreal, or both on Air Canada.

Jacksonville International Airport posted on X that the new route connected the city to its “largest unserved Canadian market.” Air Canada will offer the only nonstop service on the 2 new routes.

While certainly welcome, the news comes at a fraught time for Air Canada, Canada’s flag carrier. Tension between Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge pilots and management over pay disputes may force the airline to cease operations for up to 72 hours. If that happens, it could begin as early as September 15.

Bottom Line:

According to a statement released by Air Canada this week, it is prepared for “an orderly wind-down of operations” should the dispute not be resolved.

Air Canada’s Big Expansion

This has been a year of massive growth for Air Canada, which competes with U.S. airlines and Canadian budget carriers like Flair and Porter for a share of the U.S. market.

In 2022, Air Canada started service on the following routes: Montreal to Atlanta (ATL) and Detroit (DTW)Toronto (YYZ) to Salt Lake City (SLC); and Vancouver (YVR) to Austin (AUS). More recently, the airline added seasonal service from Ottowa (YOW) to Fort Lauderdale and Tampa.

Europe, Mexico, and the Caribbean have also been getting love from the airline, likely targeting leisure travelers in search of warmer weather. New service has started or will start from Canada to Italy, Portugal, Spain, Mexico, and the Caribbean island of Martinique.

Final Thoughts

While we don’t have many details, this is a smart move from Air Canada to add new U.S. routes. This is particularly true for Jacksonville, one of the few major Florida airports with no direct flights to Canada. We’ll keep an eye on these new routes and update you when we know more.
