Air Canada has joined forces with travel app Hopper to give its customers more flexibility to change or cancel their tickets after purchasing.

The partnership means that travelers can pay an additional fee to able to cancel their flight for any reason up to 24 hours before departure.

“We are pleased to partner with an innovative Canadian travel technology partner such as Hopper to offer Cancel for Any Reason [coverage], giving customers added flexibility and peace of mind when booking,” said Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President of Revenue and Network Planning at Air Canada.

Here’s what Air Canada’s partnership with Hopper could mean for you the next time you buy a ticket with Air Canada.

More Flexibility for Air Canada Passengers

Air Canada passengers will soon be able to pay a fee that gives them the ability to cancel their ticket for any reason up to 24 hours before their flight is scheduled to depart.

When making a reservation through Air Canada’s website (the Canadian version only), passengers will be able to choose from different levels of coverage with Hopper (iOS, Android).

Depending on the level of coverage chosen, would-be travelers would receive either 80% or 100% of their ticket cost as a refund should they wish to cancel their flight.

It’s currently unclear how much free cancellation coverage with Hopper will be as the option to add it to a booking doesn’t appear to be live on Air Canada’s website just yet.

Once the partnership officially goes live, the fares which are eligible for this new coverage with Hopper will include Standard, Flex, Premium Economy Lowest, and Business Class Lowest Fares.

Bottom Line:

Being able to cancel a flight and receive a full refund for a fee is an excellent way to get peace of mind when booking a trip — especially if there’s a chance it might not happen at all. That said, we’d always recommend making sure you’re covered in case your trip gets canceled or disrupted for reasons out of your control. These 7 credit cards will give you a range of trip coverage as one of their many perks and benefits.

Final Thoughts

Air Canada’s new partnership with Hopper provides customers more options for traveling with peace of mind. These days, plans change on a dime, so having an airline offer this service — albeit for a fee — is nice to see.

We’ll be sure to update this article with the pricing structure of the scheme as soon as it’s revealed.
